I think the pressure for young players to develop at any top club is enormous. Injuries have thrust some of ours into the first team much quicker than planned but Heaven, Mainoo, Collyer and Diallo are all examples of if you're good enough then you're old enough. Whether United are near the top of the table or near the bottom, the pressure to take your opportunity and perform will always be there.

    Jif, Manchester

The youngsters at United have far more pressure than other top teams because of the squad around them. There's little in terms of leadership or support. The kids are relied on far too much to be difference makers and play too many games.

"We understand the significance of the fixture, they're a good side, particularly at home, it's a good challenge for us and build momentum for the res of the season."

The Blues have won more Premier League games (36) and scored more Premier League goals (120) against Spurs than they have against any other opponent.

Indeed, only three teams have scored more goals against a side in the Premier League than their 120 against Spurs (Arsenal v Everton, Manchester United v Everton, Liverpool v Newcastle, all 124).

Chelsea have lost just once in their last 12 league games between the two sides (W9 D2) and are looking to make it four wins in a row against their London rivals. Their only defeat came in February 2023 when they lost 2-0 under Graham Potter.

Furthermore, Tottenham have won just once at Stamford Bridge in the last 32 years, showing the enormity of the task that lies ahead for Ange Postecoglou and his players tomorrow.

Postecoglou has lost all three of his league meetings with Chelsea, who are the only side he has faced without yet picking up a point.

The last meeting between Chelsea and Tottenham was famous for Marc Cucurella's slips and Cole Palmer's ice-cold 'Panenka' penalty that sealed the Blues' 4-3 comeback victory.

It took Dominic Solanke just five minutes to open the scoring for Spurs after after Brennan Johnson capitalised on a slip from Cucurella.

Cucurella slipped again six minutes later to allow Dejan Kulusevski to make it 2-0 - that was the cue for the Spanish full-back to change his boots as Chelsea gradually gained a foothold in the game.

Jadon Sancho halved the deficit in the 17th minute before Chelsea's second-half surge saw Palmer convert from the spot just past the hour-mark and Enzo Fernandez hand them the lead in the 73rd minute.

Palmer then scored with another penalty as Son Heung-min's late strike proved too little and too late for Ange Postecoglou's side.

Re Liam 12.10 - I want United to do well and he does have a point but a lot of that comes as a result of owners and managers who believe the hype around big name players ‘guaranteeing’ success. Clubs like Liverpool, City and Arsenal as so much better at developing young talent and selling for good prices if the pathway is not clear. Unfortunately Utd keep sticking teenagers out on the wing, hoping they are Best or Giggs reincarnated and selling for a song when they are not.

  12. Missed chances cost Man Utdpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 2 April

    Nottm Forest 1-0 Man Utd

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim struck a positive note when reflecting on his side's performance in defeat at Nottingham Forest, highlighting their inability to take chances as the key difference between the two sides.

While some supporters have criticised the United boss for trotting out excuses after what was the club's 13th defeat in the Premier League this season, the stats do back up his argument.

Nottingham Forest had eight shots against United at the City Ground, with just two on target at an xG of 0.47. Anthony Elanga scored the game's only goal after dribbling 85 metres through the heart of the United defence.

United, on the other hand, had 23 shots on goal but only hit the target with six of them and finished with an xG of 1.64.

  13. International role shows Garnacho's current standingpublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 2 April

Alejandro Garnacho is not a bad player. But, rather than the 130-odd appearances he has managed for Manchester United, maybe it is more instructive to look to the international stage to see where he is in his career.

Last summer, the 20-year-old was part of the 26-man Argentina squad that won Copa America. He played once, starting against Peru in the final group game, by which time Argentina were already assured of their knockout round berth.

Since then, Garnacho has won two caps, both as a substitute, in World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Paraguay. He was not part of the most recent squad for matches against Uruguay and Brazil.

His use at United, a club struggling to even meet the very lowest of standards expected of them, is not indicative of Garnacho's career. His use with Argentina, by any measure the best international side in the world, is. Good enough to be on the fringes. But not a central component just yet.

Garnacho is a player of promise. There is still plenty of work ahead before he comes close to fulfilling it.

Alejandro Garnacho created four chances in yesterday's defeat, only bettered by United captain Bruno Fernandes who made six opportunities for his team-mates.

But looking at his numbers for the whole season presents a bleak picture.

On average, Garnacho crates 1.4 chances every 90 minutes, meaning he is ranked 72nd in the Premier League in that regard while his 25 chances created in total is joint 63rd.

Garnacho created 25 of those 26 chances from open play, for which he is ranked joint 57th.

The 20-year-old has bagged just one assist from 29 appearances with Diogo Dalot, Joshua Zirkzee, Noussair Mazraoui (two), Amad Diallo (seven) and Bruno Fernandes (10) all managing more for United this season.

  15. Wide of the markpublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 2 April

    Nottingham Forest 1-0 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Garnacho has also struggled with shot conversion this season.

He has attempted a total of 68 shots (including blocked efforts) this season, which is the 11th highest figure in the Premier League and his per 90 minute average of 3.5 is the ninth best during 2024-25.

However, Garnacho is 71st among 82 players who have had a minimum of 30 shots and played 900 minutes in the league when it comes to his shot conversion rate - 5.9%.

His six shots last night against Forest were higher than his average of 3.5 efforts per 90 minutes this season, but he failed to get any of them on target.

It meant that he ended the game with an expected goals (xG) of 0.25 - which was lower than the xG of 0.6 registered by defender Harry Maguire, who came on as a late substitute.

  16. Is Garnacho the worst dribbler in the Premier League?published at 12:48 British Summer Time 2 April

    Nottingham Forest 1-0 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Ruben Amorim was quick to defend Alejandro Garnacho when asked about the United winger after the defeat at Forest.

"He is making everything. He’s trying," said the United manager. "Sometimes you have one day that you are doing the right things, but in the final third, you are not that good, that can happen.”

But Garnacho has been the worst dribbler in the Premier League this season - at least according to his stats from 2024-25.

The Argentine has attempted 3.4 dribbles every 90 minutes in the Premier League this season but completes just one each game.

His dribble success rate is 30.8%, which puts him bottom among 58 players who have played 900 minutes or more and attempted a minimum of 50 dribbles in the league this season.

In total, Garnacho has attempted 65 dribbles this season and completed just 20 - meaning he is ranked a joint 75th league-wide.

  17. Garnacho still has lots to learnpublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 2 April

    Nottingham Forest 1-0 Man Utd

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

It is rather cruel but it has happened so often. There is a vision developing of Alejandro Garnacho, darting down the left side of the pitch, cutting inside to the corner of the penalty area, then trying a shot that sails way wide.

Nottingham Forest fans were baiting the Manchester United winger at the City Ground last night, so often did Garnacho find himself in promising positions only to waste the opportunity.

If there is a positive from this situation, it is that Garnacho is not hiding. He is still brave enough to have a go.

But there is no doubt his development has stalled.

Alejandro Garnacho's performances for Manchester United have come into focus again after another flat display in the defeat to Nottingham Forest last night.

The Argentine winger scored his first goal in 17 Premier League appearances against Leicester City before the international break but had a night to forget at City Ground.

The 20-year-old attempted six shots on Tuesday but did not manage to get any of them on target.

  19. Fireworks for Forest's sparkling seasonpublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 2 April

    Nottm Forest 1-0 Man Utd

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Fireworks were let off outside the City Ground following the final whistle against Manchester United.

The 1-0 win edged them closer to the Champions League and, while the unofficial pyrotechnics may have been a little premature, there is no suggestion Forest's season will fizzle out.

A 10-point lead over Newcastle in sixth - before this evening's matches - gives them a huge advantage.

Of the chasing pack, they are 12 points clear of Aston Villa in ninth - who they travel to on Saturday - while they host Chelsea on the final day.

Yet Champions League qualification could - and perhaps should - be done by then with Nuno Espirito Santo's organised and unified side showing no sign of stopping.

Am I the only one who is getting a bit bored not only with the focus on Man Utd but also the excuses. Today we learn that there is too much pressure on young players - another smokescreen. The exodus of both youngsters like Elanga but also experienced players like Rashford, wiuth most going on to prosper elsewhere, is a symptom not the cause.
