There's a stark contrast in the warm-ups deployed by Ruben Amorim and former boss Erik ten Hag.

You often saw the Manchester United players laying the ball off and taking pot shots at goalkeeper Andre Onana.

The Red Devils number one has not had a single ball fired at him so far.

The starting line-up are set-up to work in different patterns, defenders in bibs looking to repel the midfielders and attackers.

It's clear having joined in mid-season during the busiest period of the campaign where there will be limited time on the training ground, Amorim will need every opportunity to coach the players as they look to learn and instil his methods and the 3-5-2 formation.

Man Utd v Everton (13:30 GMT)

    Chris Sutton
    Former Premier League striker

There has been so much hype, or even over-hype, about Manchester United, and I feel a bit sorry for their new manager Ruben Amorim because he needs time, and two or three transfer windows, to put things right.

There was a lot of excitement over the way they started his first game in charge, against Ipswich, but blimey you have got a problem if the Tractor Boys are out-playing you, which is what happened in the end.

Things got worse for Amorim when Ed Sheeran interrupted his interview on Sky afterwards. I have to give credit to commentator Conor McNamara here, but maybe it is time for Amorim to listen to one of Sheeran’s biggest hits and think about 'the shape of Man U'.

I think the reality is hitting home about Amorim using his favoured 3-4-3 formation with their current squad - especially with Christian Eriksen and Casemiro in midfield.

Once the initial buzz of Amorim’s first home game dies down, things could go flat at Old Trafford, the way it has done quite a lot recently.

I hope it happens for them under Amorim because he seems like a decent guy, but he is in the Manchester United madhouse now and he is about to find out what it is like to be under the microscope every single week.

Everton have only scored 10 goals so far in the Premier League this season, a joint-low alongside bottom-placed Southampton.

The Toffees currently sit 15th, just two points above the relegation places.

"You work with them constantly on goal threat and it's not just the strikers," said boss Sean Dyche.

"A lot was made of our set-pieces and that's still absolutely valid. We want to be a threat from those and [also see] how many different ways we can affect the opposition from open play.

"We found it tough against a compact defence against Brentford - when they went down to 10 men, we couldn't find those key moments.

"We've obviously made a considerable difference to the defending stats from the opening part of the season, and then it's finding that balance between defending well as a team and attacking well as a team."

Manchester United fans have gathered on the Old Trafford forecourt near the 'Holy Trinity' statue, protesting the clubs' decision to increase ticket prices.

Supporters have been chanting and holding a banner which reads, "Stop Exploiting Loyalty".

United have removed concessions and raised the cost of ticket prices to members to £66 for the rest of the season - they were previously available at £40 for adults and £25 for children.

Fulham are unbeaten in their past seven Premier League London derbies (W4 D3), winning the last two in a row.

In their top-flight history, they’ve never gone eight without defeat before, while only twice previously have they won three in a row – April/September 1960 and January/April 2013.

Being a Spurs fan is an absolute rollercoaster this season. They are top scorers in the Premier League, yet they are eighth. Their only draw since the opening day of the season in all competitions was against Roma in midweek - it is all or nothing for the Lilywhites this campaign.

Speaking to Spurs fans this week, views range from frustration at their inconsistency, to delight in being the league's entertainers.

Either way, this game should not be boring.

It seems pretty clear that, even though Ruben Amorim has only had two games, that if you're not buying into his style then you're off.

It will fit some of them. Even though Bodo/Glimt weren't the best team, Rasmus Hojlund looked excellent in midweek and you started to see a little bit more of the flowing/attacking style.

It is more perhaps the defensive style of things. He is going to have to get to the January transfer window and bring in a couple of players that can play that defensive shape a little bit better for him.

  9. 'Amorim's impact will be seen over a longer period'published at 13:04 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2024

Man Utd v Everton (13:30 GMT)

    Brian Barry-Murphy
Former Manchester City EDS manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Ruben Amorim is an incredible coach and an incredible guy but that squad is going to take a lot of time to evolve and I think his impact will be seen over a longer period.

The contrast between what he is and what he stands for and what they have displayed over a period of time is significantly different and it will be interesting to see what he can do with certain players that have been a problem in that system.

It will be a long haul for those guys because I think the squad is so far behind where they need to be.

New Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has admitted he'll be honest and direct with supporters, after being asked if he already feels a connection with them.

"Yes for sure, I feel that," Amorim told Football Focus. "Maybe because I'm a little bit of an emotional person. I can transmit that, even in interviews, I think.

"Maybe because I am different from the last coach and this can bring a different connection with the next guy.

"I believe that I am the right guy. People always believe the next guy is the right guy. We always have this feeling.

"To maintain this feeling, we have to play better and win games and be really honest with the supporters.

"If you are honest and direct with the supporters - maybe you don't always say the popular thing - you can create a better connection."

Everton did not really refresh the squad in the summer and when you have been in a relegation battle for the past couple of seasons, it is nice to get a couple of new signings that are going to lift the squad.

The fact that they were not able to do that makes it difficult for players that are already there and ones who have been there a long time.

Sometimes, to actually get relegated and then promoted can give you that winning feeling back. Of course that is something that Everton as a club would not want, but having not been able to refresh, as a club they feel quite stale.

The takeover makes it interesting as The Friedkin Group seem to be owners that are not shy to change managers. I think the sensible thing for them to do, with the move to the new stadium in the summer as well, would be to keep Sean Dyche in charge, at least until the end of the season.

He is a manager capable of keeping the team up. The expectation will be to stay in the Premier League and then they can reassess everything in the summer.

The players just look like they are going through the motions right now. It is very stale at Everton and it has been like that for quite a while. It is sad to see that for such a big club when they have got such a lot to look forward to.

  13. Sutton's predictionpublished at 12:55 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2024

Chelsea v Aston Villa (13:30 GMT)

    Chris Sutton
    Former Premier League striker

Aston Villa have not been firing on all cylinders recently but they were unlucky not to beat Juventus on Wednesday, after having a late winner ruled out.

I captained Villa keeper Emi Martinez in my Fantasy team last weekend because I had not kept many clean sheets and just had a gut feeling they would keep Crystal Palace out - and of course they conceded after four minutes.

Martinez is an outstanding goalkeeper, the best in the Premier League, but I cannot see him keeping a clean sheet this week either.

I am backing Chelsea to take this one. They were too strong for Leicester last weekend and while Cole Palmer did not deliver, Nicolas Jackson keeps on scoring and looks like a different player compared to last season.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

There's only one thing Unai Emery wants when he opens his advent calendar - and it's not chocolate.

After a winless five-match November, Aston Villa are hoping for three points on the first day of December.

That famous Champions League win over Bayern Munich under the Villa Park floodlights in October already feels like a distant memory.

Since then Villa have won once in the Premier League, while they start at Stamford Bridge without a win in their last four top-flight games.

Chelsea face a mammoth 3,500 mile journey to Kazakhstan to face Astana in the Conference League on 12 December (15:30 GMT) but before then three big Premier League games - starting today against Aston Villa.

Are the Blues heading towards a top four finish and the Champions League under Enzo Maresca?

The last time they graced the Champions League stage was when Real Madrid came to Stamford Bridge in April 2023.

But Chelsea certainly appear to be heading in the right direction under Italian Maresca and a win today will take them back level on 25 points with second-placed Arsenal - two points clear of Manchester City, who do not kick-off until 16:00.

Yves Bissouma of Tottenham Hotspur celebrates the goal scored by Brennan Johnson for 0-4 during the Premier League match between Manchester City FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC.Image source, Getty Images

I love watching Tottenham and what they do. They were missing Micky van de ven and Cristian Romero against Manchester City last week but went to Etihad Stadium, played brilliantly and kept a clean sheet too.

The big worry for Spurs is that Guglielmo Vicario got injured in that game. Fraser Forster is an excellent goalkeeper who has had a great career but he is not renowned for being brilliant with his feet.

Forster can appear a bit clunky on the ball, a little bit like I did when I played for Chelsea, and that could be an issue because of the way Ange Postecoglou wants Spurs to play.

Fulham were on the opposite end of a four-goal scoreline at home to Wolves last weekend but, going off what I have seen from them this season, that is likely to be a one-off.

The Cottagers have scored in every game this season apart from their opening-weekend defeat at Old Trafford, and they will be dangerous here too.

So, I don't think this will be easy for Spurs but if their forwards play like they did against City, they will come out on top again.

    Sutton's prediction: 3-1

Andreas Pereira, who had started all 12 of Fulham's league matches this season before today, is not in the matchday squad.

Pereira spoke about transfer links last summer, saying he spoke with Marseille about a move and that “unfortunately” it didn’t work out.

Portuguese boss Ruben Amorim has made a decent start as Manchester United boss, unbeaten after two games, and takes charge of the Red Devils at Old Trafford in the Premier League for the first time.

He comes up against an Everton side that have the toughest of months, starting here before facing Merseyside rivals Liverpool, Arsenal, champions Manchester City, Chelsea, with games also against Wolves and Nottingham Forest sandwiched in between.

League games involving United have produced only 26 goals this season, the lowest tally in the top-flight, while matches featuring Everton have seen the ball hit the net 27 times.

New Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is preparing for his first Premier League game at Old Trafford.

The Reds picked up a point at Ipswich in his first game last Sunday, before a win against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday.

Amorim has been speaking to Mark Chapman for Football Focus this week, with the Portuguese manager explaining why he appears to be "very relaxed" in his new job.

"I will be OK - no matter what," Amorim said. "In this stage of my life, I will be OK so that's why I am relaxed.

"Everybody says to me: 'This will change me'. This will not change me.

"If something happens, I will be frustrated for a while but I know I will recover. But I believe that we are going to succeed.

"I'm ready. When I had this invitation, I felt that it was really hard to leave my players at Sporting. But, when I had this opportunity, I felt I had to do this [and make the move].

"Maybe it is destiny and I will be a little bit lucky in the beginning and then everything is going to be fine."
