Jarrad Branthwaite could have been lining up in a red shirt today after United had two bids rejected for the Everton defender during the summer.

Instead, he remains a blue and will be feeling just that as the ball takes a huge deflection off him and goes in for the opener.

Well if the manager was looking disappointed before, he shouldn't be now. That's a training ground move and when that comes off, you are delighted with it.

    Chelsea 1-0 Aston Villa

Aston Villa are all over the place at the back.

Already, we've had the unusual sight of them conceding a needless free-kick on the edge of their own six-yard area while Emi Martinez was extremely fortunate to get away with that pass straight to Nicolas Jackson.

    Marcus Rashford

Against the run of play? Possibly.

It is well-worked from the hosts.

They all push into the six-yard box from a corner, and Marcus Rashford hangs back on the edge of the area.

Bruno Fernandes finds him and his side-footed volley is steered home by the outstretched boot of Jarrad Branthwaite.

Was it on target? Not sure. Would Jordan Pickford have saved it if it was? Probably.

    Man Utd 0-0 Everton

    Pat Nevin
Former Everton and Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Man United are losing the midfield just now. The players they are up against are playing with more energy and physicality. At the moment, Casemiro is getting overloaded.

    Nobody was ready for it.

With Emi Martinez's quality I don't think we will ever see that again!

Somehow Martinez gets away with it.

What on earth is Emi Martinez doing?

The Aston Villa keeper passes the ball straight to a startled Nicolas Jackson inside the Villa box.

The Chelsea forward cannot control it and Martinez is able to get down to Jackson's feet to divert the ball away in the nick of time.

    A huge let-off for Villa!

Everton boss Sean Dyche speaks to fourth official Simon Hooper after that tackle from Kobbie Mainoo, which is just a free-kick and not a booking.

Dyche flings his arms up in the air at the decision not to award a yellow.

    Tottenham 0-0 Fulham

    Andy Reid
Ex-Tottenham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live Online

    Fulham play a structured shape.

When they don't have possession they get everyone behind the ball. It becomes really difficult to play between the lines and get players between the lines.

Tottenham need to change the tempo and get some of those brilliant attacking players into the game.

  11. Postpublished at 13:58 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2024

    Tottenham 0-0 Fulham

Tottenham have improved in the past few minutes.

Pape Sarr makes a run in behind, but in an attempt to take it past Bernd Leno, his touch sends the ball out of play.

Fulham will be happy. They've had the better opportunities.

Marco Silva will feel reasonably pleased with how his team is playing here.

  13. Postpublished at 13:57 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2024

    Man Utd 0-0 Everton

Is it possible for a team to be both good and average?

A lot of Man Utd's build-up play has been encouraging, but their final product has been unbelievably poor.

Diogo Dalot is the latest to blame, as his cross from the left is behind everyone.

United are being given warning signs by Everton.

Beto did well there to latch on to the pass but just could not apply the finish.

Sean Dyche's side have not scored in their last three league games but are causing a few issues and are very much in this contest.

    Pat Nevin
Former Everton and Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

A lot of teams used to come here and sit back. I'm watching Everton playing here and they look more fearful when they play teams like Fulham. They have come here with a real belief that they can get something out of this game.

This is literally end to end at the moment.

Beto powers his way through the Man Utd defence after a cute pass from Dwight McNeill.

He rounds Andre Onana too but that forces him wide and he's only able to find the side netting from a tight angle.
