Mike: Spurs' season won't be decided by how they played against Everton, they need to be competitive against the top teams in the league, which they definitely weren't at the end of last season.

Tottenham Hotspur are the perennial Cinderella side of the Premier League - very pretty but always the bridesmaid and never the bride. Uglier looking teams know how to win, but maybe one day Cinders will have a ball. Will it be this season?

‌Against Everton last week there was plenty to admire, just like the first half against Leicester the previous week, but have they added enough yet to comfortably secure that top-four finish? The answer is... definitely maybe.

‌With Son Heung-min, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Brennan Johnson and Richarlison already onboard in the attacking half, they have now added the hyper-tricky winger Wilson Odobert and £65m worth of striker in Dominic Solanke.

If Ange can keep them all sweet with his impressive and honest man-management, then maybe Spurs can finish in the top four - or, more likely, win a cup. Then the fans can have only their second ball this century.

Some very sad news overnight that Sol Bamba, the former Leeds United, Leicester City, Cardiff City and Hibernian defender, has died at the age of 39.

The Ivory Coast centre-back, who began his career with Paris St-Germain and also played for Dunfermline and Middlesbrough, was part of the Cardiff side that won promotion to the Premier League in 2018.

He overcame non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2021 during his playing days at Cardiff and had been working at Turkish club Adanaspor, who announced the news on Saturday night.

Felicity: People are doubting Sancho's signing and I do understand why. He's had a rough time at Manchester United but I believe he can prove them wrong and fit in nicely. This team is in a building phase and I think Jadon has a lot to add.

Welcome to St James' Park as Newcastle take on Tottenham - a fixture that always delivers.

In 58 matches between the two sides in the Premier League, there has never been a goalless draw and you have to go all the way back to August 1971 for the last 0-0, in the old First Division.

There have been 41 goals scored in the past 10 league matches between Newcastle and Tottenham, but Spurs will not have happy recent memories of St James' Park, after losing 6-1 here in April 2023 and then 4-0 five months ago.

"I'm sure they'll be after revenge after what happened here last season and the season before," said Newcastle defender Dan Burn in his column in the matchday programme.

"They're a very good team who have made a decent start. We always seem to perform well against them and hopefully we can continue that. It's a big test but we love playing at home."

Erik ten Hag says he is confident of winning trophies again with Manchester United - because only Manchester City have lifted more than his side in the past two years.

Speaking ahead of the eagerly awaited Old Trafford Premier League match against Liverpool, manager Ten Hag twice emphasised that only Premier League champions City have bettered his personal two-trophy haul since he took charge in 2022.

United beat Newcastle to win the Carabao Cup in 2023, ending the club's six-year wait for a trophy, and then lifted the FA Cup in May after a surprise final victory over Manchester City at Wembley.

Sir Alex Ferguson is the only United manager to win trophies in three successive seasons.
