No surprises that Daniel Farke names the same Leeds XI for the third game in a row, such was the manner of Friday night's Yorkshire derby win over Sheffield United.

Willy Gnonto starts despite picking up a knock in that game while Mateo Joseph remains on the bench, despite his goalscoring cameo against the Blades.

Also little surprise that Tom Cleverley has shuffled his Watford pack after the derby defeat at Luton, making SIX changes.

Francisco Sierralta, James Morris, Festy Ebosele, Yasser Larouchi, Tom Ince and Kwadwo Baah come in, while Daniel Bachmann retains his place in goal despite seemingly carrying a knock on Saturday.

Angelo Ogbonna and Tom Dele-Bashiru miss out while Ryan Porteous, Ryan Andrews, Ken Sema and Vakoun Bayo drop to the bench.

As Cardiff seek to make it three home wins on the spin, interim Bluebirds boss Omer Riza has named the same XI which produced such a quality display to see-off Plymouth on Saturday.

Despite picking up their first win of the campaign on Saturday, John Mousinho has made two changes to his Portsmouth side for the trip across the Severn Bridge.

Elias Sorensen and Paddy Lane are recalled with Mark O'Mahoney and Christian Saydee dropping to the bench.

Swansea City head coach Luke Williams has decided on a significant re-shuffle from the 1-0 defeat at Blackburn with five changes.

Kyle Naughton replaces Josh Key at right-back and Jay Fulton comes in for Goncalo Franco in midfield.

Further forward, Azeem Abdulai and Myles Peart-Harris are brought in for Florian Bianchini and Oliver Cooper, while Zan Vipotnik starts up front instead of Liam Cullen.

Preston North End manager Paul Heckingbottom makes three changes from the side that beat Coventry 1-0 on Saturday.

Captain Ben Whiteman returns in midfield after missing the last game with suspension and replaces Ryan Ledson who drops to the bench.

Sam Greenwood and Duane Holmes also come into the starting lineup with Stefan Teitur Thordarson and Mads Frokjaer-Jensen making way - both are among the subs.

Johannes Hoff Thorup has made just one change for Norwich City following their 1-1 draw at Stoke at the weekend.

Former Bournemouth player Emiliano Marcondes makes his first start of the league season after signing as a free agent earlier this month.

He replaces Marcelino Nunez after the Chilean picked up a hamstring injury last time out.

Oxford United welcome fellow promotion winners from last season Derby County to the Kassam Stadium in the Championship.

The Rams are yet to record a win on the road this campaign but come into this match off the back of a victory at home to QPR and a draw away at Millwall.

Oxford's unbeaten home record almost came to an end at the weekend, 1-0 down to West Brom until substitute Dane Scarlett headed home deep in injury time to rescue a point for Des Buckingham's side.

Can the U's maintain their impressive record at the Kassam or will Derby pick up their first away win today?

The temperature is starting to drop as we get close to kick-off, the floodlit pitch filled with both sides warming up.

  7. Swans trying to breach midweek Hillsborough fortresspublished at 19:35 British Summer Time

Sheff Wed v Swansea (19:45 BST)

Swansea will need to defy recent history if they're to take all three points against a Sheffield Wednesday team which haven't lost any of their last 17 midweek games at Hillsborough.

The Owls have won 11 and drawn six on such occasions - but the last team to beat them on home soil in midweek? Swansea City in April 2021.

Danny Rohl's side have been inconsistent so far this season but ended a run of five games without a win by winning two and drawing one before the 2-0 home defeat by Burnley at the weekend.

The visitors arrive in South Yorkshire off the back of four games without victory (D2, L2) including a 1-0 loss away at Blackburn on Saturday.

That result was in keeping with a running theme that games involving Swansea tend to be pretty tight with just 15 goals scored in their 10 matches so far - six of which have finished 0-0 or 1-0 either way.

Luke Williams has also only seen his side win once on the road this season - a 2-1 success away at Coventry on September 21 - with the other four all ending in defeat.

Will the Swans make it a second away win tonight or will Sheffield Wednesday keep up their impressive midweek record?

  8. Stoke and Bristol City out to extend unbeaten runspublished at 19:34 British Summer Time

Stoke City are yet to be bested in October and are on a three-match unbeaten run as they welcome Bristol City.

Victory for the 16th-placed Potters in this one would send them above the Robins in the Championship table, with the visitors just three points better off after 10 games despite being six places above them.

The Robins themselves are yet to be beaten in October and are on five-match unbeaten run.

They travel to Stoke looking for just their second away win of the season, having notched up their first in emotional circumstances at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

That victory came in the absence of manager Liam Manning, who has taken a period of absence following the death of his baby son Theo.

Whisper it but things just might be looking up for both these sides.... before kick-off at least.

Cardiff look to have turned a corner under interim boss Omer Riza, who 'could not have done more' to earn the position permanently after picking up seven points from three games.

The Bluebirds edged Millwall 1-0 and then thumped Plymouth 5-0 on Saturday in their two most recent home games.

John Mousinho's men picked up their first win of the campaign at QPR on Saturday to end their spell at the bottom less than three hours, with Rangers now bottom of the pile.

It has been 40 years since Pompey beat Cardiff and they have picked up just five points from the other 11 meetings in the past half century.

The Blues did beat the Bluebirds 3-0 in Cardiff in the League Cup in 2022 but their last league encounter was in January 2012 - a 3-2 win for City.

Will we have goals galore tonight?

  10. 'Defeat for either side could see them end the night bottom'published at 19:30 British Summer Time

    QPR v Coventry (20:00 BST)

QPR head coach Marti Cifuentes says his total focus has been on "working harder than ever and making sure performances improve" in his programme notes.

The Hoops are looking to halt a run of four consecutive defeats that has seen them slide to rock bottom of the Championship.

Coventry have won just once since August and only goal difference separates them from Cardiff City in the relegation zone.

Oxford United entertain Cardiff at the Kassam Stadium and defeat for either of these sides could see them end the night propping up the table.

Sky Blues striker Ellis Simms has three goals in three Championship games against QPR.

  12. Whites aiming to dazzle under the lightspublished at 19:25 British Summer Time

    Leeds v Watford (19:45 BST)

A two-goal win and a place atop the Championship table is the goal for Leeds as they host Watford tonight.

Daniel Farke’s side have won their past two games at Elland Road without conceding and outclassed Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United on Friday.

Tom Cleverley's Hornets have lost four straight on the road, scoring only one goal and conceding 11, with three of those coming in a tame derby defeat by Luton on Saturday.

While Leeds shine brightest under the lights, taking 18 points from their past eight midweek home games, the Hornets haven't won a midweek match in almost a year, collecting just three points from seven floodlit fixtures.

It's been nearly 10 years since Watford beat Leeds in the league and on paper there looks to be only one outcome – but since when was the Championship ever that predictable?

  13. Will Preston be tough nut to crack for Canaries?published at 19:23 British Summer Time

    Preston v Norwich (19:45 BST)

Preston celebrate scoring against CoventryImage source, Getty Images

Tonight’s clash between Preston and Norwich sees the joint-lowest scoring team in the division host the joint-second most prolific in front of goal.

At a quick glance, you’d be forgiven for thinking that probably points towards an away victory on paper, but Preston have been in recovery mode since three defeats in their first four fixtures.

The Lilywhites have now lost just one in their last six, drawing three and winning two, including a 1-0 victory over Coventry at the weekend and a hard-earned point away at leaders Burnley before the international break.

Preston's home form has also been their saving grace with three wins, a draw and just one defeat so far which came on the opening day against Sheffield United.

Norwich are in decent form themselves and are unbeaten in their last five games (W3, D2). They come into this after a 1-1 draw at Stoke on Saturday and an impressive 4-0 victory over Hull City two-and-a-half weeks ago.

The Canaries have been out of the Premier League for two years but are currently well-placed to make another assault on the play-off spots, with automatic promotion still not completely out of reach.

With Leeds United the only other team above them in action tonight, victory could lift Johannes Hoff Thorup’s side up to fourth and apply real pressure to those playing tomorrow.

All eyes will be fixed on the Championship summit tonight, as Leeds United have the chance to leapfrog both Burnley and Sunderland into top spot.

Good evening and welcome to a midweek feast of floodlit football.

Ok so there might not be star-patterned footballs and a catchy anthem but the Championship can surely match even the top table of UEFA competition for intrigue and competitiveness.

We'll be following former Champions League semi-finalists Leeds as they bid to go top of the table as they host Watford while former UEFA Cup giantkillers Norwich will seek to get back on track in the promotion race at Preston.

There are some humdingers at the foot of the second tier too as the fixture computer has thrown together three matches pitting the bottom six against each other in this round of fixtures.

Really looking forward to this one, so let's dive in...
