  1. Pep 'excited' for Man City futurepublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 14 September

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter at the Etihad Stadium

Manchester City's hearing into the allegations they broke Premier League financial rules is due to start on Monday.

Manager Pep Guardiola spoke about that in his press conference ahead of today's encounter with Brentford.

However, he uses his programme notes to address on pitch matters.

"I have been really pleased with the start to the season and not just the results on the pitch," he says.

"I felt the hunger and desire in my players as soon as they arrived back for pre-season.

"I cannot ask for any more and it makes me really excited for what is to come."

Liverpool boss Arne Slot says the summer contract expirations for key players is "not a distraction" for him.

The Reds are making regular headlines as stars Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract at the end of the season. All start today.

Asked about the situation in Friday's news conference, Slot offered: “It's again the boring answer you are going to get from me as long as there is no news. We don't talk about contract situations here.

“Is it a distraction? No, it isn’t because I’m fully focused on the individuals and the team. They are part of the team and I’m trying to work with them in the best possible way to get the best out of them.

“It’s not a distraction for me at all.”

  3. 'I can't see Ipswich getting anything'published at 14:35 British Summer Time 14 September

    Brighton v Ipswich (15:00 BST)

    .

People think I am anti-Ipswich, but I am not. I like Kieran McKenna and the way his team plays, I just think Norwich is a far nicer place to live.

They got their first point on the board against Fulham before the international break and I like the way they are going about things. I still expect them to get relegated but they have been smart with the players they have brought in, and they are giving it a go to try to stay up.

I don't see them getting anything at Brighton, however, because the Seagulls have got off to an absolute flyer under Fabian Hurzeler, and it is going to be tough for Ipswich to keep Kaoru Mitoma quiet.

    Sutton's prediction: 3-1

Manchester United jump to seventh before the 15:00 BST games, while Southampton remain on zero points and could find themselves bottom by the end of the day.

A record of one goal from four games doesn't make pretty reading for the Saints.

    Exactly what Man Utd needed.

At times in the second half it was at a canter. The two centre-halves [De Ligt and Martinez] formed a really good partnership, they looked solid.

    And that's that.

The damage was done in the last 15 minutes of the first half - Matthijs de Ligt and Marcus Rashford scoring after Cameron Archer's poor penalty for Southampton was saved by Andre Onana.

The hosts had Jack Stephens red-carded for a dangerous lunge on Alejandro Garnacho, who had the final say with a vicious finish to wrap up an important win for Erik ten Hag.

    Icing on cake.

It's a lovely ball from Casemiro for Diogo Dalot, who cuts it back first time for Alejandro Garnacho to fire into the roof of the net.

He celebrates with his trademark 'sit on the advertisement board' routine.

It's going to be 16 games without a win for Southampton against Manchester United in all competitions.

And they're about to become the fifth club to record 400 Premier League defeats - joining Everton (451), West Ham United (444), Aston Villa (412) and Newcastle United (407).

That is the most amount of rolls from a player I ever seen in a long time. Bravo Garnacho! Bad tackle, but that is a ridiculous amount of rolls.

    Stuart

Red card all day. I’m stunned Stephens is arguing his case.

The game's gone if that's a red card. Barely grazed him, Garnacho rolled halfway down the pitch.

This second half has been a non-event, to be honest.

Considering Manchester United's obvious frailties, Southampton would surely have hoped to lay a glove on them on home soil.

    Southampton 0-2 Man Utd

What had looked a promising afternoon for Southampton has turned into a pretty wretched one.

Their boss Russell Martin now goes into the book for his protests.

He should arguably be more concerned at how his side have failed to have a shot since the rebound of Cameron Archer's penalty, which was saved.

  19. RED CARD - Southamptonpublished at 79 mins

    Southampton 0-2 Man Utd

It's a straight red for Southampton captain Jack Stephens - he lunges in high on Alejandro Garnacho and gets nowhere near the ball.

On first viewing it looks harsh but replays show the challenge is at knee height and the punishment is probably warranted.
