More from Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "A draw is OK for both teams. We scored a goal that was disallowed, one that is not always disallowed, and had a few chances.

"But Chelsea had two or three as well so I'm pleased in the performance. When the ball was played forward we tried to score and we deserved this point so we are going back to Selhurst with a good feeling."

On Eberechi Eze's free-kick, which was disallowed because Marc Guehi was not a metre away from the Chelsea wall and had barged into Moises Caicedo: "I know the rule. You have to be 1m away and maybe we moved too early but you have to be careful as many free-kicks will be disallowed.

"I think there was no influence with Eb's strike but the referee said Marc was too close so we have to accept it."

  3. 'They tried until the end to win the game'published at 16:50 BST 17 August

    FT: Chelsea 0-0 Crystal Palace

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, speaking to Sky Sports: "I think we created enough chances to win the game. We just conceded the free-kick in the first half which they scored from. I am happy with the performance because they have already played seven or eight games but we just have to play more.

On the performance of the centre-backs: "They played very well, they didn't concede anything. Josh [Acheampong] did well, he is very young and he is going to be a good player for this club."

On Estevao: "The personality has been top. You can see that he is from Brazil, they are different and he is going to be a fantastic player for the club. We know about Cole [Palmer], Estevao needs time to adapt but he is going to be important for the team."

On the energy of the team: "The attitude overall from the boys was very good. They tried until the end to win the game. Slowly we will be better. We have to give them rest in this moment, recover energy and go again on Friday."

  4. Arsenal lead at Man Utdpublished at 16:47 BST 17 August

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo, speaking to Sky Sports: "I think we started really well. Expectations were high but the performance was really good and we are really pleased. A lot of things impressed me. We combined really well. I was delighted with how the team defended. That is always our main focus.

"We always want to play the best way that is possible. It's a matter of approach and how we try to improve things.

On early goal: "It made a big difference. It is a lot of things we have done before. We were clinical in the right moments and you feel the energy and football comes.

On Dan Ndoye goal: "It's very important for a player who joins the club to score on his first appearance. Talented player and we expect a lot of things from him.

"The understanding in that part of the pitch and controlling the middle of the park is really important. The three of them played really well.

On transfer window: "Today doesn't change what we address during the week. The squad needs more solutions and more options and more balance."

  6. Chelsea fail to make xG countpublished at 16:42 BST 17 August

    FT: Chelsea 0-0 Crystal Palace

    Tom McCoy
    BBC Sport journalist

While Chelsea struggled to break down Crystal Palace, they still finished with an expected goals total of 1.81, their highest figure in a league game in which they didn’t score this calendar year.

The last time their xG was so high but they failed to net was in December’s 2-0 defeat at Ipswich.

Looking at Premier League data since 2022-23, 88% of teams with an xG of between 1.7 and 1.9 scored at least once.

  7. 'It was a very good first half'published at 16:39 BST 17 August

    FT: Nottingham Forest 3-1 Brentford

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Very pleased with how we started the game and the football were played. we were solid in our defending. It was a very good first half. The combinations were really good, beautiful goals.

"Pre-season was not very good. Chris [Wood] delivers when it really matters so we are delighted.

On Ndoye goal: "It gives confidence for him and that's good for him and the team of course.

On Gibbs-White new contract: "It was very important for us. He is a key player and he has much more to show.

On transfer window: "We address the situation during the week and we won't change because we won the game today. This is why we are insisting on a good balanced squad that gives us options and solutions. We are delighted that we can face this challenge."

  8. 'I spoke to them almost daily, maybe more than my kids and wife'published at 16:36 BST 17 August

    FT: Chelsea 0-0 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, talking to BBC Match of the Day, about the futures of captain Marc Guehi and playmaker Eberechi Eze. He was asked if he thought about leaving the pair out of today's match after a lot of transfer speculation.

"Not at all. Ebs and Marc, there has been a lot of noise about these two players in the last week. Everyone could see the performances against Liverpool and today they were 100 per cent aligned with this team and Crystal Palace.

"As long as they are 100 per cent committed, they will play as they are so good. I watched them all week in training, I spoke to them almost daily, maybe more than my kids and wife, but it's been worth it to talk to them.

"They didn't just show they are great footballers, but they are great persons and that's what I expected."

  9. 'Get back to basics'published at 16:36 BST 17 August

    FT: Nottingham Forest 3-1 Brentford

    Brentford

Brentford boss Keith Andrews, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was always going to be difficult but we made it harder for ourselves. We knew their strengths and we knew the problems they would cause. Set pieces were always going to be a threat. I felt our structure was lacking. We didn't perform in the first half.

"Get back to basics. Basics in the game is a dirty word at times. You have to have an edge and do the ugly side of the game and compete as a team. I didn't think we did that. I saw it a lot in the first half today and it's something we need to address. The second half was a lot better on a lot of fronts.

"The second half performances had a lot of character. Thiago, it was good for him to get off the mark.

"The club is always looking for what they need. You've seen today there are some players getting up to speed and they haven't had a fluid pre-season. I'm really happy with who we've signed so far."

  10. 'We expected a tough game'published at 16:34 BST 17 August

    FT: Chelsea 0-0 Crystal Palace

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Tough game, we expected a tough game. Apart from the first half free-kick, we didn't concede any chances but they are a very good team.

"We could have counter attacked better, we could have defended better but it is only the first game of the season.

On a limited pre season: "They played about eight games, we played just two so we tried our best. We didn't lose a clean sheet."

On how the new signings performed: "Some of them are ready, some of them need to adapt a little bit but overall very happy with all of them."

On Eberechi Eze's free-kick: "When they scored, I didn't see that but when they reviewed it, I saw that it was a foul."

On signing a central defender: "You like to talk about central defenders? I already spoke. Thank you very much."

  11. 'It doesn't define us and it won't define us'published at 16:31 BST 17 August

    FT: Nottingham Forest 3-1 Brentford

    Brentford

Brentford boss Keith Andrews, speaking to Sky Sports: "The game was pretty much done at half time and I didn't like a lot of what I saw in the first half. You have to do the basics at this level to give yourself the chance of winning games. It was the game we knew would be. Ball losses in critical areas cost us. There was a naivety I felt in some cases.

"There's an element of some players playing catch up with not having a fluid pre-season. Damsgaard came out of the team with his wife giving birth. That was a little knock. I won't shy away from the fact it wasn't good enough in the first half. It doesn't define us and it won't define us.

"They would've dropped off. Kevin [Schade] brought us the treat we didn't have in the first half. There's a journey for a few of the players coming back from injury. Kevin is one of those players but we're building him and he'll be a huge player for us.

"I'm big into players taking responsibility. We didn't do the basics of the game. We showed character and resilience in the second half.

"I think there are key learnings. I don't think this first half will define us. I do have genuine belief but we have to take responsibility for a first half that wasn't good enough.

On Wissa: "Not really. It is what it is. it's an ongoing issue. Ideally Wissa would have been available today and unless anything has happened in the last few hours then it's the same things. Hopefully it can resolves itself sooner rather than later.

"We're always looking and there's a clear plan at the club if a player leaves then we'll look."

  12. 'Not the result we wanted'published at 16:28 BST 17 August

    FT: Chelsea 0-0 Crystal Palace

    Chelsea

Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, speaking to Sky Sports: "Obviously not the result we wanted but I think the boys played well. The boys created the chances and at the end of the day it is football. We take the clean sheet and we move on to the next one.

"We had two weeks of a quick pre-season and we got some injuries but the boys showed up and we kept the clean sheet. We have quality on the ball. It was hard to find Moises [Caicedo] and Enzo [Fernandez] with the ball because Crystal Palace were holding a lot in midfield and with the dry pitch as well."

On Eberechi Eze's disallowed free-kick: "Moises gets pushed into the gap and that's why I couldn't see at all and the ball goes over my head so that's why it has to be a foul, 100%."

On having a short pre-season: "It was easy to come back but we feel the fatigue that we didn't have a long time to recover but it is football and you just have to take care of your body and not do too much."

  13. Glasner 'expects' Eze to play for Palace on Thursdaypublished at 16:24 BST 17 August

    FT: Chelsea 0-0 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner tells Sky Sports: "The 15, 16 players who had the most minutes last year are still here. There are a lot of rumours about Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi but they were 100 per cent with this group in Crystal Palace and they have proved that in a big way.

On the future of Eberechi Eze, Glasner said: "Eb should have scored a goal today, he had one and it was disallowed. He will come tomorrow to the Crystal Palace training ground, Tuesday off, we take Wednesday and I expect him to be back playing for us against Fredrikstad."

  14. 'We didn't start the way we should have'published at 16:23 BST 17 August

    FT: Nottingham Forest 3-1 Brentford

    Brentford

Brentford captain Nathan Collins, speaking to Sky Sports: "Frustrated really. I think we put ourselves in danger and we didn't start the way we should have. we were too passive on the ball and we need to be better. What we showed after half time was positive. It's not easy to come out here at 3-0 but we won the second half and it's good step forward.

"We need to learn from it. We had a game in pre-season where the start wasn't good enough.

On first goal: "We do a lot of set piece work so it's frustrating. We won the first header and it's fallen to him. We didn't step up to the challenge so it hurts.

"When they're 3-0 up here, they're going to see it out. We wanted to see a reaction and we did that.

"It's been a positive pre-season and that's why there's a clear frustrating today. So far we've all enjoyed it and we need to be better.

On playing in the top flight: "I'm buzzing. It's another season in the Premier League. It's the dream."

Brentford did nowhere near enough. That said Forest away is a difficult opening game and the start of the season is always a little unsettling when there is still a lot of player movement to be had. No team is at their best on the opening weekend, it takes a number of weeks to build that familiarity and intensity again.

They have a concession in some ways but I did just feel though that they were naive and they need to learn very quickly.

  17. 'We're buzzing'published at 16:14 BST 17 August

    FT: Nottingham Forest 3-1 Brentford

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was massive. All the lads said we needed to get off to a good start. We had a tough pre-season but we're buzzing.

"We're trying to take the level to the next level. The pressing is something you'll see more of. I enjoy it.

"I was saying to Woody [Chris Wood] earlier that it'd be so nice to score on the first game and he got two. It fell to me and I saw Woody out of the corner of my eye."

On Dan Ndyoye: "He's a bright player. Him scoring will be a confidence booster and he'll do really well.

"I'm really happy. I want to continue my game from the Euros to the Premier League."

  18. 'You live and die by VAR, today we died from it'published at 16:11 BST 17 August

Crystal Palace defender Chris Richards speaking to Sky Sports: "We were working together and we've seen Chelsea over last season, in the Club World Cup and in pre season and a draw is still a good point and a good way to start the season and we can move on with this performance.

"We talked about embracing a tough game and we knew it would not be perfect but as long as we kept a clean sheet it would be very important."

On Eberechi Eze's free-kick being disallowed: "Everyone in the stadium thought it was a goal but you live and die by VAR and today we died from it. It was a good free-kick and hopefully we get more of them.

"We try our best to not hear the outside noise and continue to work. This is a performance we can build on and now we have Europe on Thursday.

"The transfer window is still open so we don't know who is staying or going. We want to build on last year's performances, win a few more titles and finish higher up the table."

  20. 'We want to continue from last season'published at 16:09 BST 17 August

    FT: Nottingham Forest 3-1 Brentford

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We just want to continue where we stopped last season. It's a good start but it's a long season.

On his two goals: "The first one dropped to me nicely and I put it away. Elliot found me with a great pass and I managed to go round and put it in the back of the net. The first one is instinct based.

"We want to continue from last season and go better. We know we've got a European campaign but we want to keep going.

"Hopefully but the end of the window, we'll have a big enough squad, we've added two players and a third hopefully soon. Once we have those players in, we'll have enough to rotate."
