  2. 'Our fighting spirit got us through the game'published at 23:00 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December

    FT: Leicester 3-1 West Ham

    Leicester City

Ruud van Nistelrooy, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "In the end you look at the result and the three points, in the position that we are in, it's vital. With the other fixtures of this round we knew it was a big one for us. The result is what matters but I have also seen the game and West Ham were dominant. I think our fighting spirit got us through the game and we were effective in scoring. A great night.

On conceding 31 shots: "It's something to work on. That's a fact. But the spirit of this team, and the energy and every player doing everything they can off the ball - I have seen that. There was a reaction with the crowd because they can see the players are putting the performances in and you can build something.

"We know the level in the Premier League and we know every game we play that everything has to be right. We have to train and develop our counter attack, defending, our possession. Lots of things to work on but very happy with the three points.

"I said before the game, the third day we are working together, and I am making decisions on who is in and out and I have not even spoken with them. I can only compliment the players in how they reacted."

  4. 'It's not easy to explain football some days'published at 22:58 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December

    FT: Leicester 3-1 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "What I am feeling today is frustration because we lost. Frustration because we deserved so much more. We had 31 shots, that is incredible, but that is football and football is not easy. The first shot they have, they score.

"We did a very good first half, we had a lot of chances but there are days when the ball does not want to go into the ball. It is hard for the boys - they deserve much more, the fans, it is a hard day for us. The second half, after the second goal, we started losing a bit. When you are losing the match, sometimes you don't choose well. Until then I had the feeling we could draw the match but we didn't score and we risked a lot in the last minute and they scored the third goal. We didn't score in the many chances we had.

"Today we lost, we are very frustrated but in the same way I can say nothing about the players, they fight until the end. It's not easy to explain football some days."

  5. 'We need to keep momentum going'published at 22:57 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December

FT: Ipswich Town 0-1 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "I know the group and the quality and character of these players. We could see progression over the last few weeks. That's important for us.

"When we didn't get the results at the start, we were still competitive. This group is always trying to improve and now we are getting good results.

"But it's not the time to sit back and relax. We have to keep this momentum going and prepare in the best way we can to try and beat Manchester City next."

Oooh, another great stat for you. Leicester have scored in 13 of their 14 games, more often than any other team in the Premier League this season.

  7. Postpublished at 22:55 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December

    FT: Leicester 3-1 West Ham

Ruud van Nistelrooy is the first ever manager to win consecutive Premier League games with those coming both for and against the same side (3-0 vs Leicester with Man Utd, 3-1 with Leicester vs West Ham).

It is a good thing for Leicester to get the three points but also to be able to see where there is some improvement needed. You can build from that.

We spoke about the defence trying to stay more compact and solid, and I think Leicester gave up less space in the second half than they did in the first. The are things to work on which is great.

That West Ham boardroom will look across at Manchester United and see the effect the new manager has had. They will look at the effect Ruud van Nistelrooy has had at Leicester.

The financial reward and the pressure of staying in the Premier League, it makes people make decisions. Julen Lopetegui was brought in to change the way West Ham played with millions of pounds worth of players coming in.

In the end, it's a results business and the results have been simply not good enough and they've shipped far too many goals.

Julen Lopetegeui's West Ham have not been good enough defensively all season.

There were big chunks of the game where West Ham dominated and looked comfortable with the ball without doing anything.

But when it turned over, they looked very vulnerable and didn't take anything spectacular from Leicester to break the West Ham defence down.

  11. 'I think we deserve much more'published at 22:52 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December

    FT: Leicester 3-1 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui speaking to Amazon Prime: "It's frustrating because I think we deserve much more. It's hard to say this when you lose 3-1 but it's true. Normally you have to win this match but we didn't score when we have to do and we suffered after the first goal. We did very well in the first half, we had a lot of chances but we didn't score. Football is about goals. It's a hard day for us. Maybe we have to remember this game as a way that we have to build for the next matches.

"I am thinking I am very frustrated and tomorrow we are looking for the next challenge knowing that we can change the next situation.

"They want to win for them, for me, for the club. Sometimes you deserve much more when you are able to create this number of chances. It's a frustrating day but we have to think about the next challenge. Each match is important and the next match is the most important."

  12. 'We've got a long way to go but it's a great start'published at 22:51 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December

    FT: Leicester 3-1 West Ham

    Leicester City

Leicester defender Conor Coady speaking to Amazon Prime: "The lads put in a great shift. We can play better. It was all about winning, it was one for the manager. He's been in for a couple of days now and we've had a tiny bit of time to work with him. We had a lot of meetings and trying to get ideas across. the big one was to be aggressive and get across to the ball.

"What a footballer, what a person, what a fella, what a team-mate. His goal was brilliant. It's that close to being offside and that's how he plays the game. He deserves everything he gets from this football club.

"There's an awful lot of talent and we haven't shown it. We said our season starts. It's important we go again and roever well.

"You can always get through it. I've been here before, I've been in football a long time and when you're in those dark places, you can find a way through it if you listen to the right people. Listen to the manager and make sure you take his ideas on board. The weekend was a dark place but you have to dig deep. We've got a long way to go but it's a great start."

  13. 'We had to give everything for the three points'published at 22:49 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December

    FT: Leicester 3-1 West Ham

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy speaking to Amazon Prime: "First and foremost this is what we said before the game, we needed spirit and energy and to get a reaction from the crowd. The foundation for us going forward is everyone working their socks off, fighting for every inch and defending together. We can look further then and they did that in an unbelievable way.

On Vardy goal: "We know he makes those runs and it's a great assist. Bilal had a great game with a goal and assist. Great run and calm finish around the legs of the goalkeeper and what a time.

"I said after the game, they're buying into some new ideas like the 4-4-2 formation and being very compact and together. Winning our duels and playing the ball. I think we have the profiles to do ball recoveries and playing forward. If we want to get a breather then we need to get possession on a more consistent basis, if not then we get out-pressed.

"We know the Premier League is brutal. We know what our task is. We also know how much possession and how many shots West Ham had. We know how tough the Premier League is and we saw that today with a West Ham team, we had to give everything for the three points. On a long-term basis, we know the performances need to get better and it's something we have to persist with. The 3-0 was a relief. It was a very good finish from Patson."

I think Julen Lopetegui is suffering. Of course he is frustrated. Just when you think you've got it cracked with an excellent win at Newcastle, two defeats and all of a sudden the pressure is back on. That is just the life that managers lead.

They got off to a bad start with conceding early but he is right, they had enough opportunities, attacks, entries into the final third. Once you miss those maybe it is psychological.

You then feel like you need to throw on more forwards, control goes out the game and then you are leaving yourself open to counter attacks. All of a sudden it is a tough night.

West Ham had 31 shots in this match, their highest ever tally on record (since 2005-06) in a single Premier League match. It’s also the most shots by a losing away team in a Premier League game since November 2010 (Chelsea, 32 vs Birmingham).

Moyes only won four of his 19 premier league matches in 2024… one of those against Luton. We got absolutely smashed by both Arsenal and Palace. I love Moyes for what he did at West Ham, but his time was up. I’m not saying Lopetegui is the answer either. But all this rose tinted Moyes chat is annoying, especially from opposing fans who would be livid if he went to their club!

    FT: Leicester 3-1 West Ham

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It never felt like there was a connection between Julen Lopetegui and West Ham fans from the start. They wanted someone different to David Moyes in terms of style of play.

But anyone who has watched Lopetegui teams down the years would have known what he was going to bring. It wouldn't be very different from what Moyes in terms of how they played.

Also, there's been so many stories around Lopetegui's future in the past few weeks, I think there should be something in it. I think the West Ham board are looking already at who might be able to replace him.

It's not been one or two mischievous journalists, there's been too many stories in the recent weeks to make me think that they are looking now. They are beginning to look a bit more seriousness at what might be next.

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner praises Jean-Philippe Mateta's "amazing" winner as the Eagles earned their first Premier League away win of the season by beating Ipswich Town.

    FT: Leicester 3-1 West Ham

It was a big win for the new manager, getting the crowd behind you and getting the players behind you as well. The main thing is getting the players to understand what you want and getting them to buy into it and it seems like they did just that.

  20. 'The manager has been fantastic'published at 22:43 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December

    FT: Leicester 3-1 West Ham

    Leicester City

Leicester defender Conor Coady, speaking to Premier League Productions: "Relief. Really good. We have only had two players with the manager so it was tough. To listen to his ideas, to listen to what he wants to do. He has gave us a lot in meetings. Tonight was about grit and graft, and showing that we belief in what we want to do with the manager. A huge win for us. A little nervy at times but we got there in the end."

On what Ruud van Nistelrooy has said to the team: "That word [aggression] is huge in what he has brought in the last couple of days. Aggression, getting up to the ball, getting contact. It's as simple as that. The lads had a good go today, we played well in parts. Could we have played better? Of course we can. That today was huge for us, it's massive for us going forward. Important that we won the game."

On facing 30 shots from West Ham: "I don't like the sound of that. I'm a bit gutted you told me that! That needs to change because we can't give that many shots away. The most important thing is winning and winning it how we did."

On the win giving them belief: "It's huge. When you win games it breeds confidence. It was quite nervy at times in the first half and you could feel that. The nervousness gets to the crowd and they can feel it, of course they do, we're all human beings. We have to put that to bed. It's a breath of fresh air, the manager has been fantastic."
