    BBC Sport in Virginia

The sun is just climbing above the trees that line the opening fairway. It’s certainly a warmer morning than we had a day one.

A huge cheer goes up as Lexi Thompson strides on to the first tee to the sound of Sweet Child o’ Mine by Guns ‘n’ Roses. Each player has been allowed to choose walkout music - no idea if that’s Lexi’s bag, or Lauren Coughlin.

Here come Georgia Hall and Maia Stark to a bit of Abba

    Corpuz/Korda v Pedersen/Ciganda 1UP (2)

Emily Pedersen makes no mistake with that 10-footer as she knocks it in to put Europe one up in the lead-off match.

    Early blue on the board!

    Corpuz/Korda v Pedersen/Ciganda A/S (1)

Both teams in the rough down the right. Allisen Corpuz finds the green but a long way away, before Carlota Ciganda plays a typically creative Spanish escape shot - punching the ball out of the rough and settling it about 10 feet from the hole.

    Thompson/Coughlin v Stark/Hall (12:29 BST)

Lexi Thompson took a beating yesterday thanks mainly to Anna Nordqvist so she'll be desperate to make amends this morning.

Georgia Hall was also on the wrong end of a drubbing, at the hands of Nelly Korda, and these two experienced campaigners will be fighting it out here to avoid going 0-2.

  5. A half at the firstpublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 14 September

    Corpuz/Korda v Pedersen/Ciganda A/S (1)

Carlota Ciganda has a big breaker from the edge of the putting surface to win the first hole, but the ball just glides by on the low side - a really tough one that one so a half on the first.

Europe need to start making a few of those long putts though - that was a feature of the USA yesterday as those bombs started to drop at vital times - Nelly Korda and Rose Zhang in particular.

There's a lot of people who say the Solheim Cup and Ryder Cup are just putting contests - and it's usually won and lost on the greens.

  6. Match two under waypublished at 12:22 British Summer Time 14 September

    Ewing/Kupcho v Henseleit/Hull

"Let's go Europe, let's go" is the chant from a small pocket of fans on the first tee as Esther Henseleit and Charley Hull are introduced.

Henseleit tees off to get match two under way.

Ally Awing, who is partnered by Jennifer Kupcho, sends her drive straight down the fairway.

Europe captain Suzann Pettersen not yet in a dancing mood this morning. Maybe she’s waiting for YMCA to get another airing.

She’s deep in conversation with Laura Davies as we await the players for the second match.

Charley Hull is one of Europe's most seasoned campaigners at the Solheim Cup with 12 match wins over seven competitions.

Yesterday, she was beaten in both sessions but captain Suzann Pettersen has turned again to one of her most trusted lieutenants.

Her and Esther Henseleit face Ally Awing and Jennifer Kupcho who lost in the foursomes as well yesterday.

    Something's gotta give.

  9. Postpublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 14 September

    Corpuz/Korda v Pedersen/Ciganda

Nelly Korda's first swing of the day is a good one, a solid hybrid from 202 yards that just makes the front edge of the green.

Emily Pedersen plays a blinder out of the bunker, right at the flag, and it just trickles off the green but still in a nice position.

The reaction from Suzann Pettersen and Mel Reid back on the tee box tells you that they are all bang up for this today.

With well-publicised transport issues getting fans to the course on Friday morning, the huge galleries expected for the first match didn’t really materialise until the players were making their way towards the turn.

Today the side of the first fairway (as well as the stands on the tee) are packed.

    Ewing/Kupcho v Henseleit/Hull (12:17 BST)

    Steve Sutcliffe
    BBC Sport in Virginia

Esther Henseleit and Charley Hull went down to a 3&2 defeat in Friday's foursomes to Allisen Corpuz and Nelly Korda so it will be interesting to see how they fare today against Ally Ewing and Jennifer Kupcho.

There did not appear to be a huge amount of chemistry in the Anglo-German axis 24 hours ago but Henseleit was apparently very keen to go out again with the world number 12 in a contest that Europe will surely be targeting if they are to fight back.

Big comebacks do happen in these team events don't they? Remember the Miracle of Medinah anyone?

So, IF Europe can repeat that in the Solheim Cup here this weekend what should we call it? Victory in Virginia perhaps?

  13. And we're off!published at 12:08 British Summer Time 14 September

    Corpuz/Korda v Pedersen/Ciganda

Carlota Ciganda gets us under way on Solheim Cup Saturday - traditionally known as 'moving day' in regular golf tournaments and Europe certainly need to get a move on to avoid being blown away.

Ciganda finds the fairway bunker off the tee before Allisen Corpuz, with a wall of noise behind her from the fans, finds the fairway.

    Game on!

  16. Will Europe win this session?published at 12:01 British Summer Time 14 September

Right then, if a comeback is on the cards, Europe need to make inroads in this opening foursomes.

So, will Europe win the morning session?

Anything from 2½ points or better gets a thumbs up. Less than that and you'll need to hit the thumbs down.

Spain's Carlota Ciganda is not exactly known for being the quickest player in women's golf. But can she help slow the juggernaut that is the Allisen Corpuz and Nelly Korda partnership?

Ciganda of course did a number on Korda in Spain 12 months ago in the singles, but this is likely to be a very different proposition.

Korda and Corpuz became the first American duo to win three consecutive foursomes matches on Friday after also going undefeated at Finca Cortesin in 2023.

A couple of new additions to the tee this morning. They are mascots of the Washington Nationals baseball team. Meet former US presidents Abe Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt… and an eagle…they’ve not quite got the moves of Suzann Pettersen though.

European vice-captain Mel Reid insisted she still believes Europe can produce a miraculous comeback, but away from home, down four points, it will take something special.

Suzann Pettersen was a touch downbeat last night, understandably so, but Reid is about as upbeat as they come - and if she's been speaking to the team you can bet they'll come out firing today.
