First, captain Lewis Wing's powerful drive is well palmed away from danger by Carlisle keeper Harry Lewis and then, moments later, Carlisle midfielder Alex Gilliead has to be on red alert to deny Paddy Lane's goal-bound strike.

Well, that didn't take long!
A good start from the Grecians sees them earn a corner down the left in the first 60 seconds.
Reece Cole whips in an in-swinger and there, completely unmarked, was defender Danny Andrew who volleys home expertly with his left foot into the roof of the net.
The time has come... 704 players, 32 referees and 64 managers are waiting to write the story of the 2025-26 FA Cup first round.
What does the next 90 minutes have in store? Actually best make that 130 minutes, no replays in the FA Cup again this season, remember, these 32 ties will all be settled today, one way or another, either in normal time, extra time or, gulp, by penalties.

While we enjoy all today’s FA Cup action, it’s worth taking a moment to remember Colin Addison, who sadly died aged 85.
Addison managed Hereford United when they famously beat Newcastle United in the 1972 FA Cup - Ronnie Radford’s screamer, Ricky George’s winner, and one of the competition’s greatest ever upsets.
He later guided Hereford into the Football League for the first time.

With one game down, there’s still a feast of FA Cup action to come - will the first round be rife with upsets across the 33 remaining ties?
League Two Notts County make the trip to National League side Brackley Town (17:30 GMT). Home fans, can your side reach the second round for the first time since 2021, or will the Magpies keep their cup journey going?
Plenty more FA Cup excitement still to come - extra-time drama, late goals and maybe a giant-killing or two! Let us know all your thoughts using the methods above.

The
FA Cup first round was made for games like this. Halifax - riding high in the
National League and on a good run of form, welcoming an Exeter side that,
despite a Devon derby win last week, have struggled this season.
There’s no
sign of any tinfoil cups - but there is the smell of a upset in the air in
West Yorkshire. Either that - or it’s the burger van in the concourse.
Can York storm Barnsley's home FA Cup fortress?published at 14:52 GMT 1 November

Barnsley v York (15:00 GMT)
Niall McCaughan BBC Final Score at Oakwell
The rustic press box here at Oakwell
has just been described to me by a fellow reporter as his "70-year old
sanctuary".
Looking at the stats, that sentiment appears to be reflected
on the pitch when it comes to Barnsley's recent record here in this
competition. They've only lost one of their past eight home games in the FA
Cup, and to be fair, that was to Chelsea.
York City haven't travelled to this part of the county for nigh on 10 years,
and usually when they do, it doesn't go well. The National League side were
unlucky not to be promoted back to the EFL last season. Can they cause an upset
at a ground they haven't won at in
their last 15 trips?

Naz Premji BBC Final Score at Blundell Park
Grimsby Town welcome National
League South strugglers Ebbsfleet United to Blundell Park hoping to avoid a
cupset in the first round of this season's FA Cup.
The Mariners
have served up their own cup fairytale already this season after THAT victory
against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.
The shoe this afternoon is very
much on the other foot as Dave Artell's side hope to avoid any drama and get a
win that secures a place in the hat for round two.
The Fleet will be looking to emulate Wealdstone, who came here last season and knocked Grimsby out at this stage with a last-minute winner - the home fans will be hoping lightening doesn't strike twice.
The visitors' journey to round one has seen them beat Ashford Town, Faversham
Town and Solihull Moors and they will fancy their chances against their League
Two opponents.
They have a good squad with players that have
EFL experience with the likes of George Moncur, Jake Hessenthaler and Dominic
Samuel amongst their ranks, so they will come to the Lincolnshire seaside with
nothing to lose and, who knows, maybe the headline story of the round could be
made here.

Burton Albion v St Albans City (15:00 GMT)
Adam Whitty BBC Final Score at the Pirelli Stadium
Readers, you'll be glad to know that I have already done the slightly awkward sidle up to St Albans' media team to find out what 'day jobs' their semi-professional players have - because I couldn't find it online. You'll be relieved to know they delivered.
I've found a 999 call handler, a striker who runs a sweet business, and an Amazon delivery driver hoping to cause what would be the shock of the day - as seventh-tier St Albans aim to beat League One Burton - they start the day 86 places apart.

This tie might have been ripe for an upset, with the Brewers struggling in the third tier and suffering from a long injury list - but then, St Albans' manager was poached four days before this tie.
Ian Culverhouse left to join King's Lynn, meaning their centre-back Michael Bostwick was named as their interim boss. He played for two seasons at Burton, as part of a very experienced Football League career.
He's brought himself out of the line-up for today, replaced by Premier League pedigree - Adrian Mariappa, the former Watford and Crystal Palace defender, makes his debut at the age of 40.
The Saints are aiming for the second round for the fourth time in their history, as the lowest-ranked team playing this afternoon go for an almighty shock.

The magic of the FA Cup will have to earn its corn here
if a giant killing is on the cards.

National League North Chester got their first away win of the season against
Alfreton Town a week and a half ago.
Still, over 1,200 Chester fans have crossed the country

Among the other non-league sides aiming to upset EFL opposition, Boreham Wood of the National League host League Two Crawley Town at Meadow Park in their first ever FA Cup proper meeting.
This is the 12th time since the 2012-13 season that Boreham Wood have made the FA Cup first round, the
most of any non-league side during that time.
Elsewhere, seventh-tier St Albans City travel to League One Burton Albion, who have had problems at home in the league this season, while National League North side Chester head south to League Two Cambridge United.
And Hemel Hempstead of the National League South visit Greater Manchester to take on 2013 FA Cup winners Wigan Athletic.
This is just the third time in the Tudors' history that they have reached the FA Cup first round proper but they arrive at the Brick Community Stadium in good form - winning four of their past five matches in all competitions.

Spennymoor Town v Barrow (15:00 GMT)
Now this is a tie which is setting many people’s giant-slaying senses tingling.
National League North side Spennymoor are 39 places below
League Two Barrow in the ladder, but they have been handed a home draw in County Durham, and the
Bluebirds have not had much joy in the FA Cup of late.
Andy Whing’s side have picked up in the league, taking 12
points from their past six games to climb to 15th after a poor start. However they have lost four of their past five FA Cup ties, conceding 10 goals
in the process.
They have also been dumped out by non-league sides in two of
their past four meetings, as many as in the 22 ties they played against non-league
clubs between 1928 and 2012.
This is just the Moors’ second appearance in the first round, having
lost to MK Dons nine years ago, but how boss Graeme Lee, who helped Notts
County into round five in 2010 as a player, would love to make history today.

54 places in the football pyramid separate the two sides today at Blundell Park as National League South side Ebbsfleet United travel to Grimsby Town of League Two dreaming of a giant-killing.
The Mariners have already performing some cup heroics of their own this season, knocking out Manchester United on their way to reaching the last 16 of the EFL Cup.
David Artell's side are currently going well in the league too, sitting sixth in the fourth tier, but go into today's fixture off the back of four defeats in their past five fixtures in all competitions.
That will give the Fleet hope ahead of their first ever meeting in the FA Cup proper.
Josh Wright's side have reached the second round of this competition five times in their history, reaching the next stage most recently three years ago when they defeated FC Halifax Town 2-1.
