Sam Folarin stalks off, he'll play no further part, with Shiloh Remy coming on in his stead to enjoy the party atmosphere.

  3. 'Damage limitation for Braintree'published at 13:31 GMT 1 November

    Chelmsford 4-1 Braintree

    Lee Barnard
Former Chelmsford and Braintree forward on BBC Radio Essex

For now it is going to be a damage limitation job for Braintree.

There is only one team in it and Chelmsford have dominated the game. Their game plan is working a treat.

It is might be a sorry day for Braintree.

  4. Postpublished at 70 mins

    Chelmsford 4-1 Braintree

Sam Folarin, who has been excellent for Chelmsford, is down on his haunches and we have a break in play.

Lots of activity on the City bench. They have taken the sting out of the game expertly since the fourth goal.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 68 mins

    Chelmsford 4-1 Braintree

Just a torrid afternoon for Braintree fans, with the Chelmsford fans having a sing-song at their expense as they close in on the first upset of this year's first round.

Marley Marshall-Miranda has been withdrawn by the hosts with New Zealand international Tommy Smith coming on for the Iron for the closing stages.

MMM's final act was to win a free-kick in a dangerous position but the visitors waste the opportunity.

  6. RED CARD - Aidan Francis-Clarke (Braintree)published at 61 mins

    Chelmsford 4-1 Braintree

A nightmare for Braintree boss Steve Pitt.

Aidan Francis-Clarke is having his shirt pulled by Jason Adigun as he tries to play his way out of trouble but the red mist descends and he takes an almighty kick at Adigun, making minimal contact, it must be said, and it's a deserved red card for violent conduct.

He's played every minute of every game thus far but he'll be back in the changing room for the finale of this one.

Head's gone in the cauldron of a derby cup tie which is going firmly Chelmsford's way.

  7. Taylor hunting a hat-trickpublished at 13:21 GMT 1 November

    Chelmsford 4-1 Braintree

    Victoria Polley
    BBC Radio Essex commentator

There is not too much movement on the Chelmsford bench, but why would they? They're 4-1 up.

I imagine Lyle Taylor won't be interested in coming off, he is looking for a hat-trick.

  8. Postpublished at 58 mins

    Chelmsford 4-1 Braintree

Jason Adigun scored his first goal of the season in the first half and when a deep cross drops to him in 'Van Basten' territory on the right of the Braintree box here he thinks 'why not?'

Well, he drags his fierce volley across goal and out for throw in, five yards from the corner flag, that's why not, Jason.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 53 mins

    Chelmsford 4-1 Braintree

Goran Babic has been withdrawn by Iron boss Steve Pitt with Elliot Thorpe, once on the books at Tottenham, coming on.

Town look pretty shambolic at the back at the moment and Pitt needs to do something to stem the tide.

  10. 'Sloppy from Braintree'published at 13:12 GMT 1 November

    Chelmsford 4-1 Braintree

    Lee Barnard
Former Chelmsford and Braintree forward on BBC Radio Essex

    Steve Pitt will be fuming.

He will have said at half-time, 'get out there and put some pressure on'.

The have done the opposite and it is just sloppy from Braintree.

    Lyle Taylor

After the pulsating first half, it's perhaps understandable the second half started a little lethargically, but it's sprung to life now.

it's another horror show at the back for Town as they fail to clear their lines, get crowded out and the ball breaks beyond the last man for Lyle Taylor to stride through, take a touch and pick out the far corner past Jack Thompson's left hand.

That's 11 in his past eight games for Taylor and 12 for the season.

Can their local rivals respond again?

  14. 'Chelmsford have edged the whole half'published at 12:59 GMT 1 November

    HT: Chelmsford 3-1 Braintree

    Lee Barnard
Former Chelmsford and Braintree forward on BBC Radio Essex

It was a bit of a scrappy start and Chelmsford managed to get their noses in front, and were able to settle.

For me Chelmsford have edged the whole half, they have looked more lively going forward and have had more ideas.

Braintree have not really got near the Chelmsford net, and were lucky to get a penalty to give them a chance - you expected them to kick on.

Overall, Chelmsford have been the better team.

  16. HALF-TIMEpublished at 12:50 GMT 1 November

    Chelmsford 3-1 Braintree

The FA Cup, ladies and gentlemen...

National League South Chelmsford lead their near-neighbours Braintree of the National League by two goals at half-time after a pulsating first half.

Jason Adigun slotted the Clarets ahead and Lyle Taylor's 11th of the season, via a massive deflection put the hosts 2-0 up.

John Akinde's cool penalty after a Ricky Holmes handball halved the arrears but Jesurun Uchegbulam slotted home to finish a clinical break to make it 3-1.

Akinde flashed wide of the top corner from distance just before the whistle sounded to show us this is by no means over.

Can't wait for the second half.

  17. INJURY TIMEpublished at 12:48 GMT 1 November

    Chelmsford 3-1 Braintree

Into three added minutes at the end of a half we don't want to end, if we're honest.

  18. 'A real break of pace'published at 12:47 GMT 1 November

    Chelmsford 3-1 Braintree

    Victoria Polley
    BBC Radio Essex commentator

It was a real break of pace from Chelmsford to get that goal.

It seemed as if there was bit of nervousness with Chelmsford after Braintree got a goal back and were showing a bit more urgency.

    Jesurun Uchegbulam

    Devastating. What a goal.

Brilliant from Chelmsford as the flying Sam Folarin is sent down the right by some nifty hold-up play by Lyle Taylor to then play a perfect pass across the box for Jesurun Uchegbulam, on his debut, having been signed last night, to apply a left-footed finish at the far post.

    Chelmsford's two-goal lead is restored.

    Madness at the Melbourne Stadium.

  20. GREAT SAVE!published at 40 mins

    Chelmsford 2-1 Braintree

What a break from the Iron.

John Akinde flicks to Goran Babic who then sets Chay Cooper in down the right of the area to steady himself and attempt an angled dink over advancing keeper Chris Haigh who stays tall and gets a strong right hand on the ball.

    Some game now.
