  2. 'Spurs can't afford to keep losing'published at 13:05 Greenwich Mean Time

    Brentford v Tottenham (14:00 GMT)

    .

Micky van de Ven's return from injury is great news for Tottenham, but he cannot be expected to transform their fortunes on his own.

Last week's defeat by Leicester was hugely damaging to Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou and his side were so flat in that game. They have only picked up five points from their past 11 games and they cannot afford to keep on losing.

I don't think Postecoglou has been helped by the club's lack of activity in the transfer market. They have had all these injuries but they have brought in a goalkeeper, Antonin Kinsky, to add to their senior squad, and that's it.

I look at Brentford and think they are going to do this Spurs team some damage.

With Bryan Mbeumo on the right and Yoane Wissa up front, the Bees have got a lot of goals in the team. They will have a go at Spurs and I think they will find a way through.

    Prediction: 2-1

    Brentford

This could well be a pivotal week for Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs have already secured their passage into the last 16 of the Europa League and this Thursday will be hoping to hold off Liverpool and maintain their one-goal advantage in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

Tottenham are one game from Wembley and two from securing European football for next season, but while the cup form has been impressive, the same cannot be said of their league campaign.

Four successive defeats have left them in an embarrassing 16th, with pressure mounting on the Australian. His supporters will rightly point to a crippling injury list in mitigation, while chairman Daniel Levy has also come under fire for only limited activity in this transfer window.

Spurs have not lost five league games in a row since 2004, but a win today could see them jump to 13th so can Postecoglou get a much-needed three points and silence the critics, for now at least?

Another player on his way to Villa is Paris St-Germain's Marco Asensio, who is expected to move on loan until the end of the season.

That would be a brilliant signing if he could find his best Real Madrid form.

No place in the United squad today for new signing Ayden Heaven.

The 18-year-old centre-back joined United from Arsenal for an undisclosed compensation fee this week.

He played once for the Gunners this season, in a Carabao Cup win at Preston in October.

United have said he will be part of their first-team squad.

  13. Spurs sign Dansopublished at 12:40 Greenwich Mean Time

    Brentford v Tottenham (14:00 GMT)

Another new signing defender who can't play today is Tottenham's Kevin Danso.

The 26-year-old Austria international, who looked set to join Wolves until yesterday, has joined Spurs from Lens on loan in a deal that will be made permanent during the summer.

Word on the street is the fee is £21m.

Danso was born in Austria but raised in England before moving to Germany to join Augsburg.

He is expected to be eligible for Thursday's Carabao Cup semi-final second leg at Liverpool.

Manchester United announced the signing of Lecce and Denmark left-back Patrick Dorgu, 20, earlier today.

He has cost the club about £25m - but wasn't signed in time for today's game. They are still waiting for his visa and registration.

Dorgu has played 57 times for Serie A club Lecce, his only senior club until now.

“I am incredibly proud to be able to call myself a Manchester United player; this is a very special day for my whole family," he said.

“I cannot wait to work with Ruben Amorim; his vision for this team and the future of the club is incredibly exciting. There is a clear plan set out for my development, and I feel that Manchester United is the perfect place to fulfil my potential and complete my huge ambitions.”
