The party in Burnley, meanwhile, started inside Turf Moor as Scott Parker's side confirmed their promotion with victory over closest challengers Sheffield United.

Celebrations centred around the manager, after he turned last season's relegated Premier League side into one that has proved incredibly difficult to beat, or even score against, in the Championship.

These were the scenes outside Elland Road last night, after Leeds' promotion to the Premier League was confirmed by Burnley's victory over third-placed Sheffield United in Monday's late kick-off.

Not a bad day for the club, was it? A 6-0 win followed by an anxious [ish] wait and a Bank Holiday Monday night party.

We did think about correcting Mark's message but decided to leave it as it was.

He describes himself as an "elite fan". We are assuming that was meant to say Leeds and the auto-correct kicked in.

It's early - or late - so we'll let that slide.

Thanks for getting in touch Mark, hope your day pans out OK!

For the last two seasons, the clubs promoted from the Championship have been unable to make an impact in the Premier League.

The question is, do Leeds and Burnley have what it takes to survive?

Are they any stronger than Leicester City, Ipswich Town or play-off winners Southampton were last season?

What do you think they need to do to gain a foothold in the top flight?

It will be interesting to see how Leeds manager Daniel Farke surfaces this morning after promising to be a "fire beast" once promotion was confirmed.

He was interviewed after watching his side dismantle Stoke at home, but before Burnley had beaten Sheffield United to seal his side's return to the Premier League

"I normally celebrate with cake and coffee on the sofa," said the 48-year-old German head coach.

"If there is something major to celebrate then believe me, I will be a fire beast. I will be the first on the table for sure."

Farke added: "How the lads have handled the last weeks in this crunch period, when there is lots of pressure on them. The way we have performed in the last weeks, the spirit of the performance, the quality of the performance and the consistency of the results, especially with the clean sheets, is second to none."

Parker has guided Burnley back to the Premier League after one season

Burnley boss Scott Parker cut an understandably emotional figure at the full-time whistle after masterminding their return to the Premier League following just one season in the Championship.

"The ambition and target at the start of the season was to get back to the Premier League," he told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"We've managed to do that so I'm hugely proud of the squad.

"It's come down to real, pure commitment from every one of the players, their dedication and the sacrifice that they've made, that leads us to this point.

"I explained to the lads there is emotion from me because I see the commitment that everyone has brought.

"We live in a world where you win or you lose and you get judged and at the end of the season you're either promoted or not and that's how quickly people will judge it.

"I'm just delighted that all that work, all that effort, all that sacrifice has been worth it and people can see it. The facts are if you don't get promoted people can see it."

  8. Marching on togetherpublished at 07:09 British Summer Time

Leeds United had to wait for their promotion to be confirmed after brushing aside Stoke City 6-0 at home in a 3pm kick-off on Monday.

It was left to Burnley to seal the deal in the evening match against closest challengers Sheffield United.

Scott Parker's Clarets won 2-1 at Turf Moor to move level with Leeds on 94 points and create an eight-point cushion over third-placed Blades with just six points left to play for.
