Ruben Amorim knew he had to do something.

Joshua Zirkzee did really well and he pressed from the front. That puts everyone on the front foot behind those players.

Amorim will be delighted with the win, but he will think how can we start games like this?

    You could feel it.

The substitutions made a difference and the shackles come off and it allowed Amad to play further forward.

That is the type of football you expect form Man Utd throughout the full game.

Southampton playing around with the ball at the back.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis has a poor touch and Amad does what he has done all season, he pounces on the poor touch and Aaron Ramsdale is not in the goal frame.

Simplest of passes into the back of the net - talk about making a difference.

What a recovery from Manchester United.

However much Amad is being paid in his new contract, they should double it.

    Make that a hat-trick!

What a display by Amad Diallo as he gets a third. It is a familiar sight for Southampton fans, though, as they are caught trying to play out from the back and Diallo punishes them.

    Wow.

I thought there be would be another moment.

With the tempo Man Utd have got, pushing this tiring Southampton team backwards. Of course, it's Amad Diallo.

He has an eye for big moments.

His pace and running power doesn't dissipate.

    Amad Diallo again!

The forward has rescued Manchester United as his double looks to have sealed all three points.

It is a move he starts and finishes, playing a one-two with Christian Eriksen, whose excellent flicked pass puts Diallo through and he makes no mistake.

It is heartbreak for Southampton, who were the better side for 70 minutes, but relief for Manchester United.

Unfortunately for Southampton their dominance for the first 70 minutes might not be worth anything at this rate. They should've scored more when they were in the driving seat, they look like they're clinging on now. They don't deserve anything less than three points here.

It isn't really a get out of jail card for Manchester United because they'll have expected to be beating the side bottom of the Premier League. There is still time for them to find the winner, however, and to their credit they are giving it a good go now.

This is the United performance I expected to see from the first whistle.

The talent that they've got and the stature they have got - this performance should be a given.

Southampton clearly playing out of their skins tonight but I've just checked Ivan Juric's managerial record. Sacked by Genoa three times and sacked by Roma after 2 months. No disrespect to Juric but I've got a mate who manages a local club in Derby. Can he have a go in the PL next?

Who is it going to be? That young man, Amad has been outstanding under Ruben Amorim.

He has been the go to man for everything, but it took a bit of luck this evening.

    Relief for Manchester United fans!

It did feel like one goal would not be enough for Southampton and so it proves as Amad Diallo equalises.

He does get a bit of fortune when his first touch bounces back off a defender and to him, but then he tucks in the loose ball neatly.

    All square.

Aaron Ramsdale had to make a good save.

You expect Bruno Fernandes when he goes through to find the net, it is on the angle but Ramsdale makes himself big and it is a good save.
