  2. GREAT SAVE!published at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January

    Ipswich 0-0 Brighton

Brighton might have had all the possession, but Ipswich almost hurt them on the counter there.

Nathan Broadhead drives forward with the ball before curling one from the edge of the box.

It needs a strong fist from Bart Verbruggen to push it away from the goal.

Brighton have just dominated possession without causing too many problems.

They have slowed their tempo a little bit and they are matching the way that Ipswich are playing.

Luke Woolfenden's defensive header almost troubles goalkeeper Christian Walton as it goes behind.

From the resulting corner, Simon Adingra finds Joao Pedro, whose header is directed straight into the gloves of Walton .

Bayindir made some great saves against Arsenal but his distribution was terrible for the most part. The game before that he was the reason we exited the League Cup. Nick at 19:17 seems to have a very short memory.

Manchester United play Preston in the FA Youth Cup tomorrow night.

I would imagine Godwill Kukonki started this week hoping he would play given he was a substitute in the last round when United hammered Coventry.

The 16-year-old Stoke-on-Trent born defender may well be involved at Leigh.

But before that he has bench duties to perform tonight and, who knows, maybe even a first-team debut.

It's mad to think he was born in April 2008. The first England manager of his lifetime was Fabio Capello.

Ipswich have got numbers congesting the midfield area. At the moment they are standing firm but if Brighton want to try and cause some real problems, they've got to move the ball more quickly and shift Ipswich players out of position.

At the moment, that hasn't happened.

Brighton continue to probe, but credit to Ipswich, Kieran McKenna's players look well organised behind the ball.

Meanwhile, Liam Delap and Jan Paul van Hecke tangle on the halfway line and the Brighton centre-back makes his displeasure clear after the challenge from the Ipswich forward.

How on earth have Brighton not been given a penalty there? The Ipswich players eyes and hands are constantly on the Brighton player and grappling him to the extent the player is down. Not even VAR check? Can someone elaborate? I see fouls and cards given when the player doesn't even look or play the ball. I'm a confused football supporter.

I think because Ivan Juric's not charismatic like Russell Martin from the outside you can write him off.

But this man is no mug, he has managed in Seria A for a number of years - he knows football very well.

    On Alejandro Garnacho...

I do think when he come to the fore, he was this winger who hugged the line, he is very skilful and very pacey.

Now he has to operate from a different starting position - he is open to learning, but he has to adapt his game.

Finally, we have a shot in this game and it only took 13 minutes.

It's Kaoru Mitoma who pulls the trigger, but it's an easy stop for Christian Walton in the Ipswich goal.

  13. Postpublished at 19:43 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January

    Ipswich 0-0 Brighton

Brighton have enjoyed almost 80% of possession so far in this contest while Ipswich are yet to have a touch inside the opposition box.

Neither sides are yet to attempt a shot, though.

Kaoru Mitoma releases Yasin Ayari inside the box, but Kalvin Philips makes a very important intervention to put the ball behind for a corner.

There were half-hearted appeals from Brighton for a penalty, but the referee isn't interested.

There's a slight break in play here as Nathan Broadhead body-checks Ipswich midfielder Carlos Baleba, who should be able to shrug it off.

  19. Amad rises to Amorim challengepublished at 19:28 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January

Man Utd v Southampton (20:00 GMT)

    Simon Stone at Old Trafford
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

If there is one player who has really responded to Ruben Amorim's arrival at Manchester United it is Amad Diallo.

A bit-part player under Erik ten Hag, Amad has been involved in all 14 games under Amorim.

He has proved flexible enough to operate at wing-back or inside forward and scored crucial goals against Manchester City and Liverpool.

Amad has been rewarded with a new long-term contract and Amorim will hope it is the start of better recruitment at Old Trafford, where too much money has been wasted for too long.

  20. 'Man Utd need to score more'published at 19:25 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January

Man Utd v Southampton (20:00 GMT)

    Nedum Onuoha
    Former Manchester City defender

Since Ruben Amorim's arrival, they have been defensively stronger and Lenny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt have bedded in. De Ligt in particular made several key blocks to deny the Gunners.

Yoro is also only 19 years old and I think he is doing well considering he has moved to the Premier League, suffered an injury and then had to navigate his way back into the squad.

They are well supported by the experienced Harry Maguire. It has been a difficult few seasons for Maguire but he is showing real leadership and solidity at the back under Amorim.

That is huge for United going forward, given they have triggered his one-year contract extension.

They just need to be scoring more and that is not just down to the strikers. Goals have to come from all over the pitch.
