  2. 'It was a disaster'published at 20:05 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

    Southampton

Southampton manager Ivan Juric speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was just a huge difference, there is nothing more to say, really from the beginning to the end there was an incredible difference between two teams. It was an awful game, a disaster and we played really bad."

On going man-for-man: "We wanted to play like this, it was not good today, I think the players wanted to do it but individually they were much better than us. Everything disappointed me today because we were no good before, later I think for me, my staff, the players it is a really bad moment and we did a really bad game."

  3. 'We outfought and outsprinted them'published at 20:04 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

    FT: Southampton 0-4 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Fabian Herzeler speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was a very mature performance, we controlled the game, in all phases we created chances. The only thing we struggled with was 10 minutes befopre half time and 10 minutes after but in general it was a good performance.

"We outfought them, we outsprinted them, we were aggressive, that was the key to winning this game. It was a different style today, because they went man to man, we had to find solutions in personal duels, and the players did that quite well so I was happy with that performance.

On Joao Pedro stepping in for the injured Danny Welbeck: "All the players were sharp but Joao always wants to play, he is a very important player. Today he had the chance and he did very well. To lose two players (Welbeck and Joel Veltmen) so soon before the game is not not easy so I am very proud how they stuck together and came throught this together.

"It is very important that we go step by step, game by game, Tuesday is the next chance to prove the form we are in so it is important to keep this momentum, to know why we have the momentum, to do the basic things right."

JS: GK dilemma for Maresca now. Neither have been convincing, so surely just pick one and stick until the end of the season.

More from Youri Tielemans, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a big, big win against one of our rivals. It is so important. I can't put it into words.

On his own performance: "The manager has improved me a lot. His tactical analysis of the game has helped me to improve my game and has helped em to express myself and improve on the details.

"Last season when I was maybe not playing as much at the start I worked on the training pitch a lot to focus on the details and work hard to fit into the team. Once I did that I fit in perfectly and understood exactly what the manager wanted from me. Now I feel really good and in the rhythm to play many more games. "

On January signings making the difference: "It helps us a lot when you seem them tow linking up for both goals. We know they are only loans but hopefully we can get more from them if they play well and stay fit and help us to reach our goals."

On being in the race for Champions League places again: "We have to enjoy tonight but there is still a long way to go. Hopefully we can get some momentum going towards the end of the season and get there in the end."

  7. 'Rashford is very important for us'published at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans, speaking on Sky Sports, first about Marcus Rashford's impact: "Very pleased, especially the way he is performing now and with the two assists today. Marcus is someone who can threaten everyone one versus one and even one versus two. He is very important for us in the way he plays because he gives us something different on the left-hand side.

"You could tell today every time he got the ball he was dangerous and hopefully with many more minutes in his legs he will only get better."

I am sure that there are directors of football all around the world with their heads in their hands now thinking, 'why didn't I get Marcus Rashford?'

I get the doubts. I would have been one of them. I would have been nervous doing it but right now Aston Villa look like they have got great business done and I am pleased for him.

It has been tough, there are elements where you think he should have tried harder but he has found a good environment.

Aston Villa have now won 18 points from losing positions in the Premier League this season.

That is more than any other team.

Meanwhile, 13 of the 15 points Chelsea have dropped from winning positions this season have come since Boxing Day.

Unsurprisingly, that too is more than any other side.

  10. How it standspublished at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

Here's how the Premier League table looks following Saturday's action.

Aston Villa ensure they remain firmly in contention for the Champions League places with their comeback win over Chelsea, who missed the chance to go fourth before Manchester City face leaders Liverpool tomorrow.

Earlier, Arsenal were denied the chance to reduce the gap to Liverpool to five points by West Ham, in a bitter blow to the Gunners' title ambitions.

Tottenham thumped Ipswich 4-1 and there were also wins for Brighton, Wolves and Crystal Palace this afternoon, after Manchester United fought back from two goals down to earn a point at Everton.

Chelsea look very tired and suddenly that bench does not look too convincing either. Maresca looks out of ideas too and this loss would hurt, after the positive start they made (not for the first time).

Aston Villa goalscorer Marco Asensio speaking to Sky Sports: "I am so happy. The performance from the team was incredible. The atmosphere was top. I want to thank the fans for the effort that we do together. We need to continue but the team is in the right way. I am very happy for my first goals and for the win."

On beating Chelsea: "It's incredible. We knew today was important and we had to win. And we did. So I am very happy. We have to continue. On Tuesday, we have another match. The mentality we need to have is to win every match.

"We are working hard. We have new team-mates. We are building something new. We are in the right way and we have to keep working."

On his first goal and Marcus Rashford: "I looked to Marcus and he told me that he was not offside. I trust him. He told me that it was not offside.

"We know all the qualities of Marcus. He helps us a lot and thank you also to him for the two assists."

On his decision to move to Villa: "It is a very important move. It is a step forward. The club, Unai [Emery] and the staff all trust me. That is the most important thing for a footballer."

He [Marcus Rashford] has been loved as soon as he entered the building. He has come into and environment, a culture that is thriving.

The fans in general, when he has come on have been willing him on. He looks so sharp and looks like he has the bit between his teeth again.

Every week, it's the same, a good start, then it becomes far too slow. Sideways and backwards. Maresca needs to go.

    Paul, North Somerset

Same old Chelsea; lots of possession but can’t close out games. Maresca has no Plan B and the Premier League has sussed him out. He’ll be gone before Christmas and we’re back where we started again.

I'm sure the Aston Villa manager was contemplating who he was going to take off.

He took off Jacob Ramsey and that substitution made all the difference. He was fantastic. Marcus Rashford came on and the Holte End have got a new hero.

He gave energy, he gave enthusiasm and everything we want to see from him because we know he cane play but it has been the other parts of his game, the running, the desire.

He was excellent and gave Villa that impetus. He made a massive difference.

The problem with being a goalkeeper is that if you make a mistake more often than not it ends in a goal. That is the unfortunate reality for Filip Jorgensen.

The top keepers don't let that bother them too much and are able to bounce back. They learn from them, try to improve and try to come back stronger.

As for Chelsea, that's now just three wins in 12 games in all competitions, and two in 10 in the Premier League.

The Blues remain sixth, level on points with fifth-placed Bournemouth, after another costly goalkeeping error.

All the reaction coming right up.

    FT: Aston Villa 2-1 Chelsea

    Andy Reid
Former Tottenham and Nottingham Forest midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Villa will quite rightly take the plaudits. They have won the game and taken the points and played quite well throughout.

But we have to give credit to both sides. A really, really enjoyable game. Both teams wanted to win and were on the front foot.

It is a little bit of a shame in some ways that it was decided by a mistake from the Chelsea keeper.

Overall Villa maybe deserved to take the win because they were more adventurous in the last 20 minutes or so, they looked the most likely and finally took the chance when it came.
