  1. Blades need to look forward not backpublished at 14:44 BST 16 August

Swansea v Sheff Utd (15:00 BST)

Right, we all know that Sheffield United, and not Sunderland, should be playing their first Premier League this afternoon.

But that play-off final, like automatic promotion beforehand, slipped out of their grasp.

Chris Wilder has gone along with a number of those players involved and it's a new broom with Ruben Selles in as head coach.

But a 4-1 thumping at home by Bristol City and a loss to Birmingham in the EFL Cup has done little to dispel those feelings of regret.

Now they're in south Wales to take on a Swansea side looking for their first points of the campaign, too, under new permanent head coach Alan Sheehan.

No guarantees of anything, but the Blades need to kick into gear sooner rather than later.

  2. What kind of atmosphere awaits at Hillsborough?published at 14:42 BST 16 August

First, the good news, we have a game on and all the stands will be open after a summer of extreme turbulence at Sheffield Wednesday.

A player exodus, unpaid wages, a ground in disrepair and an owner desperate to sell but burning any semblance of goodwill has created an unholy mess at Hillsborough.

The fans are in revolt at what has happened to this grand old club and will let Dejphon Chansiri know exactly what they think this afternoon.

Against that backdrop, the threadbare Owls must find a way of stopping Stoke. But they pushed Leicester all the way in the league and beat Bolton on pens in the EFL Cup, so the spirit seems strong.

But Stokies enjoyed a fine win over Derby seven days ago and today they are aiming to win their first two league games since 2007. If they want a good omen, that was the season they won promotion to the Premier League!

  3. Protests and lots to ponder at Owlspublished at 14:39 BST 16 August

A rather strange atmosphere inside Hillsborough as the home fans continue their protest against mismanagement of the club by current owner Dejphon Chansiri.

Last week at Leicester it was arrive five minutes after kick-off. This afternoon they held a funeral ceremony for the club at nearby Hillsborough Park, there is a whistle protest planned at kick-off and a boycott of the upcoming Carabao Cup game against Leeds United.

On the field, Henrik Pederson has worked wonders with a threadbare squad and coaching team and his hands were further tied when it emerged that he has coaches and players ready to join Wednesday but the EFL won't sanction any moves as they are still not sure if Chansiri can fulfil his financial obligations.

Lots of takeover talk but this place needs takeover action and fast. Today's visitors Stoke City have started the new campaign well and may see this as a potential easy three points - but be warned, Wednesday are a wounded animal and showed enough at Leicester to suggest this could be a real scrap.

Lots to ponder both on and off the pitch in this one.

  5. 'We've got an exciting group of players'published at 14:35 BST 16 August

    FT: Wrexham 2-3 West Brom

    West Bromwich Albion

Isaac Price scored twice for West Brom today to make it three goals in two games and he's been speaking to Sky Sports:

"It's really good from us, we came to get three points and we knew it was going to be tough but we dealt with it really well.

"When you've got players like Jed (Wallace) and Mikey (Johnston) to come on they can change a game

"I'm trying to get myself in positions to get on the end of crosses and they were great balls in from Tom (Fellows) and Mikey - we've got an exciting group with young players and experience and we think we're good enough to beat anyone in this league and it's just about having the right mindset."

Derby almost pull one back right at the death but the final whistle goes on this excellent encounter.

What an advert for the Championship in only the second game of the season.

    Eight goals, four in each half. Here's how the scoring went, 0-1, 1-1, 1-2, 2-2, 3-2, 3-3, 3-4, 3-5.

Coventry needed three attempts to win this game, but they are deserved victors. Some of their attacking play looked really sharp and five different scorers reflects that, while Frank Lampard will be pleased at their character in coming back from 3-2 down.

Derby did lots of things well but that's now two defeats from two and eight goals conceded. Not hard to see where they need to improve.

  7. FULL-TIMEpublished at 14:33 BST 16 August

    Portsmouth 1-2 Norwich

Time has run out for Portsmouth.

In the end, those early goals by Harry Darling and Josh Sargent were enough to secure Norwich's first points of the season despite that late Pompey fightback.

  8. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 14:32 BST 16 August

    Portsmouth 1-2 Norwich

Nerves in shreds now for the Norwich faithful, you'd think!

Another corner is half-cleared to John Swift on the edge of the box and the midfielder lines up a volley that cracks against the crossbar with Vladan Kovacevic beaten.

  9. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 14:30 BST 16 August

    Portsmouth 1-2 Norwich

Norwich fans holding their collective breath...

Portsmouth swing a corner into the box and Connor Ogilvie controls it, but then goes down under the challenge of Jacob Wright.

But referee Stephen Martin is unimpressed and produces the yellow card for simulation.

    Wrexham 2-3 West Brom

Jed Wallace of West Bromwich AlbionImage source, Rex Features

That's a good shift from West Brom and their boss Ryan Mason whose introduction of second-half substitutes Mikey Johnston and Jed Wallace proved pivotal.

Lewis O'Brien had levelled for Wrexham after Isaac Price's opener for the visitors but the Baggies took control in the second period.

Johnston supplied the pass for Wallace to fire Mason's side back in front just 29 seconds after the pair had come on.

Johnston was at the centre of things again nine minutes from time when crossing for Price to head home his second of the afternoon.

Sam Smith headed a late, late second for the Welshmen but they were beaten fair and square.

West Brom will do well to hang onto Isaac Price as he has added to his growing reputation.

Wrexham will do well to challenge anywhere near the top of the Championship if they keep defending like that.

A first league meeting between this pair ends with an away win - Albion's first in 16 Championship road trips!

  15. INJURY TIMEpublished at 14:25 BST 16 August

    Portsmouth 1-2 Norwich

It all looked routine for Norwich after that penalty save from Vladan Kovacevic - two goals to the good with just over 10 minutes to play.

But that Adrian Segecic strike changed the mood around Fratton Park - as did the announcement of a minimum 10 additional minutes.

Another five of those for the Canaries to cling on... or for Pompey to snatch a dramatic point.

  16. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 14:25 BST 16 August

    Derby 3-5 Coventry

Now Frank Lampard turns to his bench to see this one out.

Goalscorers Ephron Mason-Clark and Haji Wright depart with Ellis Simms and Kaine Kessler-Hayden getting a few minutes.

Coventry do have a more than decent Championship squad.

  17. goal

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 14:23 BST 16 August

    Derby 3-5 Coventry

Dajaune Brown is Derby's fifth and final sub. He replaces Ryan Nyambe.

This game now feels done and dusted.

  19. Postpublished at 14:21 BST 16 August

    Wrexham 1-3 West Brom

Almost one of those late Wrexham goals - Kieffer Moore flicks on a free kick and Max Cleworth with a reaction header nods over the bar.

  20. Postpublished at 14:19 BST 16 August

    Wrexham 1-3 West Brom

Just the four added minutes to this one.

Wrexham do like a late goal or two...
