GOAL Preston 1-0 Leicesterpublished at 15:08 BST 16 August

    Alfie Devine (7 mins)

    What an impact!

His first league start for Preston after joining on loan from Tottenham and Alfie Devine is coolness personified.

He beats goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk to the ball on the byline and scores from a very narrow angle.

    Watford 0-0 QPR

Decent start for the home side, with Moussa Sissoko creating a couple of early opportunities.

Sissoko's cross found the head of Watford's new Danish striker Luca Kjerrumgaard, but he was unable to direct the ball on target.

Sissoko then set up Edo Kayembe, who brought a low stop from QPR goalkeeper Joe Walsh.

    Absolutely astonishing start here.

The referee let the game go on despite the incessant whistling from the home stands and, just as an announcement asking fans to stop was made over the Tannoy, the Potters scored.

As soon as the ball went in the net the fans turned their chants to calling for owner Dejphon Chansiri to leave the club.

    The whistles continue.

And this is not going to alter the mood very much...

The Stoke cheers can barely be heard, but the Potters are in business as Million Manhoef scores inside a minute.

Bae Jun-Ho plays the ball into Manhoef, who cuts onto his left and beats Owls keeper Pierce Charles.

Blackburn Rovers are celebrating 150 years. Fans have been grappling for the chance of a free t-shirt from a shirt cannon!

To mark the 150th anniversary season, key figures have been presented with caps on the pitch. The first six were honoured on the pitch before kick-off.

The last to be honoured, with the loudest applause, was ex-Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray.

  9. Whistlespublished at 15:01 BST 16 August

    Blackburn 0-0 Birmingham

Blackburn have made three changes from the side beaten at West Brom on the opening day.

There's no Lewis Travis who is the subject of reported interest from Derby County.

Dion De Neve and Axel Henriksson drop to the bench.

Todd Cantwell skippers the side with Sidnei Tavares and Augustus Kargbo also starting.

Birmingham are unchanged from the side which started the draw with Ipswich eight days ago.

The sun is shining and a real feelgood atmosphere around both sets of fans at Ashton Gate with two wins out of two (in the Championship and Carabao Cup) so far for both teams.

But something will have to give today.

‘Section 82’ at Ashton Gate is rocking in the far corner, and has been since around 1430.

The Rookery Stand is decked out in black and yellow flags for Watford's first home league game of the season.

New manager Paulo Pezzolano said he "wants to build a house on top of strong foundations" at the club.

After losing his first two games in charge, he'll be hoping the bricks are laid down sooner rather than later.

  14. Hornets and Hoops target first win under new bossespublished at 14:56 BST 16 August

    Watford v QPR (15:00 BST)

For any new coach, chalking up that first victory is always an important hurdle – so both Paulo Pezzolano and Julien Stephan will be keen to cross it this afternoon at Vicarage Road.

Watford boss Pezzolano, who succeeded Tom Cleverley during the summer, led the Hornets to a 1-0 defeat at Charlton last Saturday prior to a Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Norwich three days later.

The Uruguayan would be overjoyed if he could emulate Cleverley’s immediate predecessor Valerien Ismael, who launched his reign as Hornets boss two years ago by overseeing a 4-0 hammering of QPR, with all the goals coming in the first half.

That was a rare success for Watford in this fixture, however – they have won only twice in their last 11 league meetings with the Hoops.

Rangers have a Frenchman of their own in the dugout now in the form of Julien Stephan, who started with a 1-1 draw at home to Preston last weekend before a youthful side lost to Plymouth in the Carabao Cup.

The R’s also bolstered their forward options in midweek, with striker Richard Kone joining the club from Wycombe and named among the substitutes this afternoon.

  15. Injury-hit Preston seek remedy to home woespublished at 14:55 BST 16 August

    Preston v Leicester (15:00 BST)

A downcast looking Preston boss Paul HeckingbottomImage source, Rex Features

It never rains but it pours for Preston at the moment.

Twelve home draws last season and only seven wins almost cost them their Championship status (only Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City won fewer at home) and then key players Freddie Woodman and Emil Riis (among others) left in the summer.

Fast forward to this season and there are already injury issues for boss Paul Heckingbottom to deal with - not least that of forward Daniel Jebbison who injured himself in a session with a personal trainer.

Midfielders Jordan Thompson and Mads Frokjaer-Jensen are also now sidelined.

"Mads was pretty adamant that he didn't think it was a significant one at the time and the scans showed that but he won't be fit for this week," Heckingbottom told BBC Radio Lancashire.

Leicester returned to the Championship needing a late winner to beat troubled Sheffield Wednesday six days ago.

The Foxes forced 27 efforts on goal in that victory with boss Marti Cifuentes looking for his side to be more clinical in the future.

"The important thing is that we score, no matter if it's the centre halves or the strikers," he told BBC Radio Leicester.

There were only two away wins during a harrowing last season in the Premier League for Leicester but they have won four of their past five in the Championship and they may well fancy the task in Lancashire today.

  16. Rovers hope to give Birmingham the Bluespublished at 14:53 BST 16 August

    Blackburn v Birmingham (15:00 BST)

Blackburn boss Valerien IsmaelImage source, Rex Features

It's all a bit of a waiting game for Blackburn Rovers at the moment and that doesn't mean just waiting for their first points of the season.

Soon-to-be-out-of-contract quartet Sondre Tronstad, Lewis Travis, Ryan Hedges and Dominic Hyam all remain the subject of transfer speculation and having already lost Callum Brittain to Middlesbrough this month there could be some considerable holes to plug for boss Valerien Ismael.

An opening day 1-0 loss at West Brom was followed by an EFL Cup exit at home to Bradford - hardly cause for optimism at Ewood Park but a late run towards the play-offs last season shows there's no reason for panic.

So, how are Birmingham City? Very well, thanks for asking.

A record-breaking promotion from League One was followed by an impressive performance in the opening-night draw with Ipswich while Wednesday's Carabao Cup victory over Sheffield United showed the depth of Chris Davies' squad.

Rovers have won their opening home league game in each of the past five seasons while Birmingham are unbeaten in their first away trip for the past six years - something to give today?

  17. City and Twine looking to tie Charlton in knotspublished at 14:52 BST 16 August

Scott Twine (L) scored twice in Bristol City's 4-1 win at Sheffield UnitedImage source, Rex Features

Flash in the pan or an accurate reading of the thermometer? That’s a question Bristol City fans may well be pondering after their side’s remarkable opening-day thrashing of Sheffield United.

City, outplayed by the Blades over two legs in the play-offs at the end of last season, took their revenge in some style with a 4-1 win at Bramall Lane – the perfect start for their new boss Gerhard Struber.

Attacking midfielder Scott Twine, who scored twice on the day, told BBC Radio Bristol: “We’ve done the basics really well and we were clinical. It’s definitely a good win for us and fully deserved.

“We have self-confidence, we know as a team how good we can be but we’re not thinking too far ahead at the minute.”

Twine and his team-mates will start as favourites today against their fellow Robins – newly-promoted Charlton, who also began the season in winning fashion.

The south Londoners saw off Watford at The Valley last Saturday courtesy of an injury-time strike from summer signing Harvey Knibbs.

A convincing opening day win for Millwall away at Norwich has created a real buzz around The Den before their first home game of the new Championship season.

Speaking to fans in and around the ground confidence is growing that this could be the year they finally make it into the play-offs. Yep, even after one game the belief among the Millwall faithful is high.

A victory today would mean it would be the first time since 2014 the Lions would start a league campaign with consecutive wins.

A stern test ahead taking on Rob Edwards' Middlesbrough.

  19. Boro's soft centre under observation at The Denpublished at 14:48 BST 16 August

    Millwall v Middlesbrough (15:00 BST)

Only a week into the season and Middlesbrough's new head coach Rob Edwards has seen the best and worst of his new club.

A fine start with a home league win over Swansea was followed by a Carabao Cup thrashing at the hands of League One Doncaster.

In the latter days of Michael Carrick, Boro could not shake the idea they had a soft centre. And where does that reputation get tested like nowhere else?

    The Den.

There is a sense of cautious optimism in Bermondsey that Millwall and Alex Neil may be on to something this season, with two away wins to begin in league and cup.

And they'll want to bring that form back to their own stomping ground as their home season kicks off.

You might have heard that Snoop Dogg has become a co-owner at Swansea City.

Well, the Swans are at home to Sheffield United today and the Blades have been paying homage to the rapper by playing The Next Episode, the Dr Dre song featuring Snoop, in their changing room before heading out to warm up.
