A Palace win tomorrow would rank as the third-best day in my life (after the birth of my son and wedding day). It's the polar opposite of 'another' Wembley day out for City. Please Palace.

  4. Dunk back, Mitoma has 'minor issue', Rutter 'very close' - team newspublished at 10:15 British Summer Time 16 May

Brighton v Liverpool (Mon, 20:00 BST)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler on team news:

"Lewis [Dunk] will be back in the squad, Joao [Pedro] will be back in the squad [after serving a suspension]. So they are all very positive news.

"Karao [Mitoma] has a minor issue so hopefully he will also be a possibility for us in the squad, so overall very positive - we have more options to select.

"Igor [Julio] is also part of the squad for sure, James [Milner] is doing rehab on the pitch, so he is getting closer. I'm not sure if we will see him this season.

"Georginio Rutter is also very close, so hopefully he will be back next week with the team. There is a small chance that he can be an option for the end of the season for the last game."

Travelling to game from Northern Ireland. Warned my son earlier in week that there will be a lot of grown men crying if Palace were to win! Would mean so much to the club and supporters.

  8. 'I think we have done really well this season to manage a small squad'published at 09:57 British Summer Time 16 May

Arsenal v Newcastle (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe added on how a few injuries can make his squad a bit light: "I think January [transfer window] played a part in that, we lost two players from the squad. I think we have done really well this season to manage a small squad. Our injury record this season has been very good, in part due to having less games. We have managed to keep the majority of the players fit.

"You are always going to get one or two. But I think we are in the position with our squad, you get a run of injuries and it can look thin very quickly. Fingers crossed we can maintain our strength until the end of the season."

  9. 'We're delighted to have Lascelles back'published at 09:52 British Summer Time 16 May

Arsenal v Newcastle (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe also gave an update on Jamaal Lascelles: "No recovery from the same injury is the same, it's all individual and about how your knee reacts to different situations. Jamaal's took a little bit longer. He had a couple of moments were he had to take time through different phases.

"Through the whole process he's been very level. It would have been easy to fall into a difficult place mentally, but he's shown dedication. He's a brilliant professional. We've missed his voice on the training pitch, the demands he puts on himself and other people, he's a real culture setter for us. We're delighted to have him back."

  10. 'It's nice to be nominated'published at 09:49 British Summer Time 16 May

Arsenal v Newcastle (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was also asked about his manager of the season nomination: "I always think it's nice to be nominated for different things because ultimately it hopefully means you've had a successful season so I'm proud to be on that list.

"I'm also proud for Alex [Isak, for his Player of the Season nomination], I think he thoroughly deserves it."

  11. 'Nothing is achieved until it's achieved'published at 09:47 British Summer Time 16 May

Arsenal v Newcastle (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was also asked about their bid to qualify for the Champions League, the club are currently third: "It's not done yet. The picture can change game-to-game and I think we've got to be really focused on our next game and trying to win it.

"We have been, our preparation has been good and the focus is there from the players. Nothing is achieved until it's achieved. We have to be single minded in that and not get distracted."

  12. 'The biggest possibility is that we don't see Joelinton again this season'published at 09:45 British Summer Time 16 May

Arsenal v Newcastle (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was also asked about Joelinton's fitness: "He's working away behind the scenes. Typical Joe he's absolutely foot to the floor trying to get fit because he wants to be involved.

"The biggest possibility is that we don't see him again this season and we'll get him ready for next year."

  13. 'I don't think Trippier will be fit'published at 09:41 British Summer Time 16 May

Arsenal v Newcastle (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe added on other team news: "Kieran [Trippier] I don't think will be fit for this weekend but again it's not a big injury, a very minor calf problem.

"Joe [Willock], we'll leave the door open for him, I think he's got a slight chance."

  14. Botman a doubt for Sundaypublished at 09:39 British Summer Time 16 May

Arsenal v Newcastle (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has faced the press and was asked about Sven Botman's availability: "It was a knock, he got a bang on his knee. We're not sure about Sven's availability for the weekend but we'll give him a chance to be fit.

"We don't think it's a serious injury. He's been unlucky. You're going to get knocks and bruises in his position and this is a similar thing, he's been really unlucky on the last two occasions."

  16. Last time Newcastle finished secondpublished at 09:34 British Summer Time 16 May

Arsenal v Newcastle (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Karan Vinod
    BBC Sport Journalist

Last time Newcastle United finished second in the Premier League was 28 years ago under the tutelage of Kevin Keegan and Kenny Dalglish.

The former had taken them to consecutive runner-up finishes in the league, 1995-96 and 1996-97 (behind Manchester United on both occasions).

In that first season, the infamous 'I love it if we beat them' rant transpired as Keagan and co. were level on points and chasing down United going into the last two games of the season. Unfortunately, Newcastle could only manage two draws. Mind you, Newcastle had a 12-point lead at one point during that season.

Midway through the following season. Keegan shockingly quit his job in January and Dalglish was appointed his successor as they finished second and seven points behind United.

  17. How can Arsenal and Newcastle clinch Champions League football?published at 09:30 British Summer Time 16 May

Arsenal v Newcastle (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Karan Vinod
    BBC Sport Journalist

Arsenal will clinch a Champions League spot if they beat Newcastle on Sunday.

A draw will also be enough unless Chelsea and Aston Villa both win on Friday, and Manchester City avoid defeat on Tuesday. But because the Gunners' goal difference is significantly better than the sides below them, a draw will realistically ensure a top-five spot, regardless of results elsewhere.

If they lose, Arsenal will qualify for Europe's elite competition should Villa fail to win or if both Chelsea and Nottingham Forest fail to win. This takes into account that Forest host Chelsea on the final day and both sides cannot catch the Gunners.

Because of Arsenal's goal difference, the only scenario in which they could retain a realistic chance of missing out on Champions League qualification would be if they lose and both Chelsea and Villa win.

A win will guarantee Newcastle a Champions League place unless Chelsea and Aston Villa both win and Manchester City avoid defeat. But because of their goal difference advantage over Villa, a win will realistically ensure a top-five spot for Eddie Howe's side, regardless of results elsewhere.

A draw will be good enough if:

    - Aston Villa lose (as Forest play Chelsea on the final day and both sides wouldn't be able to overtake the Magpies)

    - Chelsea lose and Nottingham Forest fail to win

Should Newcastle and Villa both draw, Eddie Howe's side would be realistically assured of Champions League qualification because of their goal difference. The same applies if the Magpies lose, Villa also lose and either Forest or Chelsea fail to win.

  18. Newcastle's record against Arsenal in recent yearspublished at 09:26 British Summer Time 16 May

Arsenal v Newcastle (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Karan Vinod
    BBC Sport Journalist

Newcastle United could leapfrog Arsenal into second place in the Premier League if they beat them this Sunday. Eddie Howe and co. have a good record against Mikel Arteta's side recently and should have the confidence to get the job done.

Let's have a look at their head-to-head record since 2022:

    • Total meetings - 8
    • Newcastle wins - 5
    • Draw - 1
    • Arsenal wins - 2

Arsenal's biggest win was a 4-1 demolition of Newcastle in February 2024 whilst The Magpies' biggest win was 2-0 at Emirates in the Carabao Cup earlier this year.

Note - These stats are from all competitions.
