  2. What is it like to play under Postecoglou?published at 09:47 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November

    Tottenham 4-1 Aston Villa

    Joe Hart
Former Celtic goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's a ride that's for sure. But, he walks through the door and lets you know exactly what he expects.

Another week goes by and he lets you know it's exactly the same and still what he expects. Then something will happen, good or bad, and another month will go by and he'll let you know exactly what he expects.

Very clear messages. He wants his team on the front foot.

I was really intrigued by him, fascinated by him in fact. Respectfully I didn't know who he was, I didn't know his background. We spoke to discuss coming up to Celtic. I was thinking about finishing football, I'd had enough to be honest. But I just wanted the opportunity to play with freedom and passion.

He told me 'mate, you can do that with me' and I thought 'I believe you'. Celtic were in a little bit of disarray, didn't win the title the year before, and he was so clear and so dedicated in what he wanted. He didn't care who you were, he had a way of playing and who he wanted you to be as a person.

  4. 'A very important game for Solanke'published at 09:43 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November

    Tottenham 4-1 Astonm Villa

    Gus Poyet
Former Chelsea midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

    I'm so happy for him.

When you have that change of club and that transfer fee on your shoulders and go to a place where you know they are asking for many many things that they have not been able to do over the years, it's important you get those goals.

I was so pleased for him. I think the second half was really impressive, especially from the position Spurs were in. It was a very important win for Spurs and very important game for Solanke.

  5. Time for Solanke to shine for England?published at 09:40 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November

The next question is whether an in-form Dominic Solanke could be good for England, as well as Tottenham?

Captain Harry Kane is the obvious starter, but there has been an ongoing debate about who should be next in line.

Cole Palmer has the most goals of any England player in the Premier League this season with seven, followed by rejuvenated Brighton front man Danny Welbeck on six, while Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Ipswich's Liam Delap both have five.

Solanke has enjoyed a stop-start beginning to his time at Spurs but moved to four league goals for the club with his brace on Sunday.

He has already forced his way into the England reckoning, but will the former Bournemouth striker finally get his chance to shine in the next international break?

Interim boss Lee Carsley will name his final squad on Thursday ahead of the final two games of the Nations League campaign - away to Greece and at home to the Republic of Ireland.

  6. Can Solanke kick on from here?published at 09:28 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November

    Tottenham 4-1 Aston Villa

Five efforts on the Aston Villa goal, four on target, two goals...job done.

Dominic Solanke scored three in three games earlier in the season but had not found the net in six matches before his double against Aston Villa.

Tottenham fans, if you are happy with what Solanke has done so far, click thumbs up.

If you are yet to be convinced, click thumbs down.

  7. 'There was a moment fans took Solanke to their hearts'published at 09:16 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November

    Tottenham 4-1 Aston Villa

Of course it helps if you have a top striker who is bang in form.

Use the play icon above to watch Match of the Day 2 pundits Danny Murphy and Phil Jones analyse the performance of Tottenham forward Dominic Solanke, who scored twice in Sunday's win against Aston Villa.

"Certainly after the second goal the whole stadium was signing his [Solanke's] name," said Murphy.

"That was a moment when I think the fans kind of took him to their hearts and actually realised how good he is and what a player they've got."

  9. Comeback kings? How Spurs fought back to win, againpublished at 09:02 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November

    Tottenham 4-1 Aston Villa

    Danny Murphy column graphic

Another Tottenham home game, and another fightback from Ange Postecoglou's side to take the three points.

Sunday's 4-1 win over Aston Villa was the eighth time this year that Spurs have recovered from conceding first to win at home in the league - equalling Newcastle's all-time Premier League record from 2002 - and the 24 points they have picked up from those situations is 10 more than any other top-flight team in 2024.

In an ideal world, Tottenham would not be in a position where they are trailing in the first place, but for them to keep on getting themselves out of a hole shows more than just a real resilience and strong mentality.

Every time they come back to win, their players demonstrate that they can cope with the expectations that I know you face whenever you play in front of the Spurs fans, and also deal with the added pressure you get when things go wrong.

But, furthermore, their success reinforces their belief that their style of play, where they aim for high levels of possession and look to dominate the ball and really go at the opposition, is working.

Spurs have equalled Newcastle's record from 2002 for eight home league wins after conceding the first goal in a single year

Spurs have conceded the opening goal in 12 of their 14 home Premier League games in 2024 but recovered to win on eight occasions and pick up 24 points, 10 more than any other team. Away from home they have earned only one point from losing positions this year, giving them a total of 25 points. Manchester City, with 26, are the only team to have gained more in the same period

  10. We have to try to be consistent - Emerypublished at 08:57 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November

    Tottenham 4-1 Aston Villa

    Back to Sunday's reaction.

If it was a good week for Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, the same cannot be said for Aston Villa's Unai Emery.

Since a stunning performance in a 2-0 win at home to Bologna in the Champions League, Villa have dropped points in a 1-1 draw at home to Bournemouth and lost to Crystal Palace at Villa Park in the Carabao Cup before Sunday's heavy defeat at Tottenham.

"We are accepting of the result against Tottenham," Emery told BBC Match of the Day. "We wanted to challenge here. Today we were winning but then lost. Now it is [important] to get balance. [The season is] 38 matches and we have to try to be consistent."

  11. Edu's decision to leave Arsenal - reportspublished at 08:50 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November

The Mail reports this morning, external that Edu has decided to leave Arsenal.

"Talks have been ongoing with the club's hierarchy and while the reasons are currently unclear, it is his decision to go," the report reads. "More details are expected to emerge in the next 24 hours.

"It is thought there may have been a reshuffle in responsibilities among the Arsenal hierarchy in key positions but it is 'too simplistic' to suggest there has been a power struggle, one source told Mail Sport."

Arsenal are not commenting on the reports that sporting director Edu is set to leave the club. We’re working to verify the story elsewhere but there is no official word from the club.

Edu has played a key role in Arsenal’s recruitment and became the club’s first sporting director in 2022. The former Arsenal midfielder joined the club in 2019 as the technical director.

I think Ange has done a brilliant job at Tottenham with how they play. Maybe Aston Villa are starting to get caught up with the amount of games they're playing. I think they may be finding that difficult at the moment.

Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 Aston Villa: Ange Postecoglou praises 'unbelievable' Dominic Solanke

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou on bouncing back from last weekend's defeat at Crystal Palace with victories over Manchester City in the Carabao Cup last-16 and at home to Aston Villa on Sunday in the Premier League:

"Seven days is a long time in football," he told BBC Match of the Day. "Seven days ago I was a grumpy so-and-so. I keep saying that we have got to stay true to the course we are on. Whatever challenges we have along the way we have got to dust ourselves off and go again.

"This group of players has done that after a real disappointing game for us at Palace. With two big tasks against City and Villa to come, we made sure that by Monday when we got back in the building that we weren't going to feel sorry for ourselves and get back to being the team that we want to be."

I want to change the record but I can only see City winning the PL based purely on experience rather than quality due to their moderately aging squad. Re-signing Gundogan was a poor decision as Pep is a forward-thinking manager and Kovacic, Nunez, and Lewis are more than capable.

I think Nottingham Forest are up there with Arsenal and Chelsea, I just don't think they have the quality to qualify for Champions League football.

    The Daily Express

The Express leads with Bruno Fernandes on his "tough call" to Erik ten Hag, but also carries a report on a warning from Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou that there will be "congestion" in the race for Champions League places this season.

Spurs moved up to seventh in the table - two points outside the top four - following a 4-1 victory at home to Aston Villa, who dropped down to sixth place after the defeat.

  18. The foundation is there - Van Nistelrooypublished at 08:02 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November

    Man Utd 1-1 Chelsea

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

It might not have been obvious for long spells yesterday and 13th place in the Premier League hardly shows it but Manchester United interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy believes performances over the last two games has provided a platform to build on for the remainder of the season.

Although fifth might well be enough to secure a place in next season's Champions League - and avoid a £10m hit on the sponsorship deal with Adidas - United are six points adrift of that at the moment, and they are only seven ahead of third-bottom Ipswich.

Nevertheless, Van Nistelrooy is taking the positives from an EFL Cup victory against Leicester and the 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

"The performances and spirit we showed on Wednesday and against Chelsea gives us a foundation to build on," he said. "Then football qualities will come out.

"There is a lot of time to improve on the ranking."

    Man Utd 1-1 Chelsea

    Nigel Reo-Coker
Former West Ham midfielder on the Football Daily podcast

Ruud [van Nistelrooy] hasn't changed anything tremendously so you have to say it probably is on the players. It's the same formation but there's a different appetite the players are showing. Manchester United were very loyal to Erik ten Hag but now the change has happened, we've seen a different energy in the players.
