It is always very reassuring for any player to have a player of Rodri's calibre in your side. He is not afraid to take the ball under pressure, retain possession and lay it off. Such a quality player.

    Brighton 0-0 Man City

    Mark Schwarzer
Former Chelsea goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live at The Amex

On whether Trafford is now the Man City number one:

I don't think anything is set in stone when it comes to Guardiola and his team selections. Trafford has a unique and excellent opportunity to establish himself as number one.

If you look at the games so far he will not be 100% satisfied and he will know that he can do better, but there is pressure on him with a world class keeper on the bench.

Pleased to see it looks like we've dropped the three centre backs and reverted to a back four - it's never looked comfortable and has definitely contributed to us conceding so many goals

Being a manager at any level is really difficult. There are so many considerations you have to take every day.

Not everybody knows about football and not everybody knows how to run a football team. It is a difficult job.

Disappointed that Tzimas didn't even make the bench for Brighton. He looked a real handful midweek in the cup with two goals. Would have been a good option to bring on for 20 minutes.

Brighton v Man City (14:00 BST)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler, speaking to Sky Sports: "At the moment we have a big squad so we have to make tough decisions. In the end we always try to do the best for the club and make decisions that help us to win games.

"The main thing is to improve our results. The performances are good, we are competitive and on a good level. Now we need to get the results; keep clean sheets, be clinical and I'm sure the results will come.

"It is a different game, we are at a different stage of the season but of course we always have the self belief and confidence that we can challenge anyone, and we have that today."

Long time Hammers fan and never felt more negative. Sadly the core of defence and midfield just not good enough for top 10 of the Premier league, and no natural 20 goals a season forward. Going to be a long season trying to avoid relegation. If Jarrod Bowen decides he's had enough they're in even bigger trouble.

On new signings featuring: "They need time to know the routines of the team, but we are getting there.

"Soon we will have more options and that's the idea. It's a danger that West Ham have good players and a very good manager, so we have to play a good game.

"In all the games you must have the right mentality to win."

Hope Potter is given time to turn things around at West Ham. Too many knee-jerk reactions in the Premier League with regards to sackings, and for him to go this early in the season would be criminal.

Brighton v Man City (14:00 BST)

    Peter Schmeichel

The way Pep Guardiola likes to play very much circulates around the goalkeeper they have.

With Ederson, they utilise his incredible control off the ball. I've heard from different managers when they play against Manchester City they don't apply pressure on Ederson as it's wasted energy.

When he gets put under pressure, he can make that 80-yard pass.

  20. 'You don't have to be a manager to see how important Rodri is'published at 13:38 British Summer Time 31 August

Brighton v Man City (14:00 BST)

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports, on Rodri's first Premier League start since last September: "It is big. We know how important a player he is. He has trained really well for the last weeks, played some minutes against Spurs, so maybe not for 90 but he starts the game.

"You don't have to be a manager to see how important he is. He was nominated the best player in the world last season before he had his injury at home to Arsenal, so that is why he is vital. Everybody knows it."

On sticking with James Trafford in goal: "I decide this game to go with James and then tomorrow we finish for the international break and the transfer window and after we will see what happens. The season is so long and keepers always play a lot of games throughout the season.

"Everybody wants the arm [around them when they make a mistake]. But sometimes you put the arm around one and the other sees and they get jealous so that's why it's better to do it altogether or not do it."
