Looking forward to all the optimistic opinions on how United's season starts now... I'm actually more concerned by the performance. The players up their game for Liverpool and City, but don't turn up otherwise. That's a much bigger and harder and slower problem to solve for the club.

  2. 'A proper Amorim performance from United'published at 07:45 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January

Everyone thought Liverpool were going to absolutely batter Manchester United. But credit to United.

I bet at the start the United fans would have hoped that the heavens opened up and they couldn't clear the snow at Anfield. But in the end, they were happy and they could've even won it.

United were fantastic. They defended well and it was a proper Ruben Amorim performance. That is what we have seen with his Sporting team.

    Thanks for your response Ady!

It's giving us flashbacks to this summer's "Should England keep Alexander-Arnold in midfield" debate.

I've thought for a long time that, if TAA is allowed to get forward and not be relied upon defensively, then he is a quality player. It is when he is pinned back by an attacking opponent that the problems start and to be made to look so poor by Dalot, hardly a world-class left wing-back himself, shows just how limited Trent is in a back four. Ironically, given the system employed by Amorim at United, he's just the sort of player we need!

There was the usual animosity in the stands during the game at Anfield but there was rare unity amongst some Liverpool and Manchester United fans before yesterday's game.

Representatives of the Spirit of Shankly and 1958 fans groups displayed a banner expressing their opposition to what they view as unacceptable rises in ticket prices.

This follows a similar protest involving Manchester City and West Ham fans ahead of their match at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Fan representatives recognise the difficulty of organising protests on matchdays, especially when the clubs' supporters have such an intense rivalry as the one between Liverpool and Manchester United.

But they do feel there is a common bond and yesterday's action is intended to be part of a concerted effort to put pressure on clubs.

    Dhilan, you've inspired us.

Today's big talking point is Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold.

We want to know what you'd do in his shoes. Move to Real Madrid in January? Wait until the summer? Or, stay at Liverpool?

On Saturday, Erling Haaland scored twice in the Premier League for the first time in over three months as Manchester City hammered West Ham to equal their biggest win of the season.

Haaland followed up his header late in the first half by calmly chipping over advancing West Ham keeper Alphonse Areola after running on to a through ball from Savinho.

West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui remains under intense pressure.

Former manager David Moyes' presence in the stands was a reminder the east London outfit have not made the progress anticipated when the Scot left at the end of last season

    Thanks Dhilan, a first-time texter.

In fairness to the Liverpool man, only Ipswich's Leif Davies has created more chances as a defender in the Premier League this season.

He remains a proper asset for the Reds.

Trent was shambolic last night. It was his pass that was given away that led to the Martinez goal. He was also beaten by his attackers far too many times making his defending look like a schoolboy. This Real interest may be getting to his head.

Congratulations to everybody who added Raul Jimenez to their Fantasy Football team this week.

By the way, Wolves can go three points clear of Ipswich and the drop when they face Nottingham Forest tonight.

Also on Sunday, Raul Jimenez completed a penalty double in stoppage time to rescue a point for Fulham against Ipswich as three spot-kicks were awarded in a dramatic second half.

The Mexico striker's nerveless late penalty, hit high into the net, ensured Fulham's unbeaten run stretched to eight league games.

Fulham stayed ninth in the Premier League while Ipswich remained 18th, level on points with Wolves who sit a place above them.

Manchester United demonstrated the spirit that has been missing under new manager Ruben Amorim to earn a superb point at Premier League leaders Liverpool.

United, attempting to avoid four straight league defeats for the first time since 1979, took a shock lead when Lisandro Martinez powered a finish high past Alisson after 52 minutes.

Liverpool were level seven minutes later when Cody Gakpo scored with a superb angled drive before all United's good work looked to be in vain.

Mohamed Salah equalled Thierry Henry's tally of 175 Premier League goals from the penalty spot with 20 minutes left after handball was awarded against at Matthijs de Ligt following a video assistant referee intervention.

United were not to be denied, however, and Amad Diallo scored another big goal after his winner at Manchester City when he turned home Alejandro Garnacho's cut-back.

There's always a football connection! Three Little Birds is sung at every Ajax game after fans embraced the number when it was played before a friendly with Cardiff in 2008.

One of the best tunes connected with a football team.

I've also always had a soft spot for Wolves and Villa because they play Hi Ho Silver Lining before every match.

Norwich's goal music Samba De Janeiro.

I could go on. I probably will.

Anyway, shall we talk Premier League?

I say let's do this but quickly I want to share my surreal taxi journey into work today with you.

It was a quiet journey, no chat as it was 05:30 GMT, when suddenly the taxi driver put on his Bob Marley CD and started singing along to Three Little Birds at the top of his voice.

Great tune, I don't want to sound like I'm complaining or anything. Just didn't expect it.

Oh look, there are loads of talking points from the weekend's football! Manchester United getting a point at Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea both being held, Newcastle continuing their fine run of form.

Plus Leeds drawing, Haaland scoring and so much more.

Later on today we'll have news conferences from Eddie Howe and Mikel Arteta.
