Gavin Cattle's side have won six of their eight matches in the Championship this season

Cornish Pirates joint-head coach Gavin Cattle was impressed with his side's 41-17 win over Nottingham.

The bonus-point win saw the Pirates run in seven tries as they consolidated third place in the Championship.

It was their second successive bonus point win this year after a 40-33 victory at Cambridge last week.

"As a group post-Christmas building from Cambridge we wanted to take it up a notch, and I felt we did that," Cattle told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"The emotion was brought into the game, the physicality was there.

"You can have all the tactics and game planning you want - we lacked that in the second half against Cambridge, so it was good to see it on both sides of the ball."

Pirates led 19-0 at half time thanks to tries from Robin Wedlake, Hugh Bokenham and Fin Richardson.

Joe Elderkin, Steele Barker, Jacob Morris and Alex Everett crossed after the break as pirates got a fifth win in six Championship games.

It comes ahead of a run of three successive away games at leaders Coventry, second-placed Ealing and fifth-placed Bedford.

"If you want to be in the hunt at the top they're the teams that you've got to go and beat," Cattle added.

"I know Coventry are quite vocal in being top of the league, so it's a big challenge on a fast pitch and they're a good team.

"We're going to have to bring that emotional energy, but it's about how can we control their tempo."
