Nwokoro Odinaka Ezekiel has got international clearance after previously playing in Bahrain

Jersey Bulls boss Gary Freeman is hopeful new Nigerian striker Odinaka Ezekiel Nwokoro "could make an impact".

The forward, who moved to the island late last year, previously played in Bahrain and was an unused substitute in the 0-0 draw with Redhill.

"He's brought a real positive to the squad," Freeman told BBC Radio Jersey.

"It's a bit of a strange one, normally we ask any players who come to the island to go and play in the local game," added the Jersey Bulls boss.

"He watched a couple of training sessions, I was quite conscious he was watching the sessions and then I had a chat with him after.

"He seemed quite humble and he said 'give me a chance to train', so we invited him up to training and he's trained now for probably five weeks.

"We've had to wait a month for his international clearance to come through as he was playing in Bahrain."

Freeman has yet to see the striker, known as 'Naka', in a game situation but says he could well be a useful addition to his squad, who are fourth in Combined Counties Premier Division South.

"He doesn't stop working so I think he'll suit the English game," said Freeman.

"He's something a little different to what we've got, so it'll be interesting if we can get him on soon.

"Hopefully we'll see a bit more of Naka because he's brought a real energy to the group and this is the one thing we can't do in Jersey, we can't bring fresh faces in particularly, so it's nice to get a different character around who's come from playing football elsewhere.

"I think he's got a real chance that he could make an impact."
