The appointment of Ruud van Nistelrooy seemed like a really bad idea at the time. It hasn't worked out well. The arguments were that Steve Cooper played really negative football. The dream of a Premier League legend recreating a team in the image of his success is pretty wild, especially if there's no money for the players that he wants. I'll stick my my neck out and say Cooper would have kept Leicester up with this squad.

Two very emphatic "thumbs up" gestures from Aston Villa manager Unai Emery for Marcus Rashford. Rashford made a run behind the Brighton defence, but did not receive the ball because Youri Tielemans was fouled.

That, despite that outcome, is clearly the run Emery wants Rashford to make.

It would be incredibly Palace for our amazing away run to come unstuck at one of the worst teams in Premier League history!

The Villa bench aren't too happy about Yasin Ayari not picking up a yellow card for a cynical challenge on Youri Tielemans.

Certainly not the worst tackle you'll ever see but it was a cheeky one.

    Brighton 0-0 Aston Villa

It's Villa who have settled best in this one in the early stages as John McGinn heads a decent chance wide.

Lucas Digne curls in a beauty of a cross and the skipper gets their first but can only direct it wide. Think he actually headed it with his face!
