  1. Bournemouth eyeing Europepublished at 19:22 British Summer Time 2 April

    Bournemouth v Ipswich (19:45 BST)

Bournemouth come into this game off the back of losing Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final to Man City but must quickly dust themselves off and go again.

Europe is calling for the Cherries and three points over struggling Ipswich will put them one point adrift of Man City in fifth and two behind Chelsea in fourth.

Huge night in the race for Europe.

    Bournemouth v Ipswich (19:45 BST)

Ipswich are in trouble. Deep trouble.

The Tractor Boys are rooted into the relegation zone with just 17 points from 29 games. However, a win tonight will move them nine points behind Wolves in 17th.

Still a long way to go but never say never.

  3. One plus in a tough season for Ipswichpublished at 19:20 British Summer Time 2 April

It has been a tough season for Ipswich, although one plus has been the form of Liam Delap after his £15m move from Manchester City last summer.

He has scored 10 of his team's 28 Premier League goals this season and could well be on the radar for a number of clubs as he could stay in the top flight, even if his team are relegated.

Delap has not scored in his past five games and if Ipswich are to have any chance of keeping their hopes of staying in the division alive, they need him to rediscover his best form quickly.

Bournemouth have lost a bit of form of late, going out of the FA Cup and taking only one point from their past four league games.

They really need a positive result to get back on track, so who better to face than an Ipswich team who are struggling badly?

I thought Bournemouth played well in the first half against Manchester City on Sunday and carried a goal threat - but the mindset of the Ipswich players is likely to be a bigger factor in what happens in this game.

The bottom three are doing so badly that we maybe should have relegated them over the international break - it feels like all three of them need a miracle if they are going to survive from here.

As I've said many times, I actually like the Ipswich model and how they play, and I am a fan of Kieran McKenna as a manager.

I have felt for them this season and, out of the bottom three sides, they have given it the best go at staying up, but it is quite a damning statistic that they are the only side in the top five tiers of English football yet to win a league game in 2025.

Maybe the international break will have done them good but this feels like an open goal for Bournemouth, who are still right in the race for Champions League football next season.

The Cherries needed two late goals to win at Portman Road before Christmas but I am not sure McKenna's side will put up the same fight this time.

It is starting to feel like they are resigned to their fate, and they might have to think about how they will bounce back next season - if they can keep their squad together then I'd be confident that will happen.

There will be suitors for Liam Delap, of course, but if he wanted to move somewhere nice he could just come and live in Norwich - it is quite a long drive to Ipswich though.

    Sutton's prediction: 3-1

Brighton v Aston Villa (19:45 BST)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler, speaking to Sky Sports: "We have to take care of the young players. They played the games for the national team and then played a very intense game against Nottingham Forest. They might come into the game and decide it with the freshness.

"Gruda is the player who tries to find the space and has unbelievable technique in narrow spaces. Hopefully, he's ready today.

"We have to be on our highest level physically and mentally. we don't have to force it. We have to be more patient. We have to play at our highest level if we want to compete with the best teams in the league.

Did Marcus Rashford show signs of his old self against Preston?

The England international scored twice at Deepdale to open his Villa account and he will be full of confidence coming into this one against Brighton.

    Will his fine form continue?

Brighton suffered the bitter disappointment of an FA Cup quarter-final exit on penalties against Nottingham Forest on Saturday - but there is still plenty to play on offer for Fabian Hurzeler's side.

They start tonight's game against Aston Villa here at a gloriously sunny Amex Stadium in seventh place, two points off Chelsea in fourth.

As for Villa, their cups are overflowing as they contemplate an FA Cup semi-final against Forest at Wembley as well as a Champions League quarter-final against Paris St. Germain.

And if all else fails, they are still right in the shake-up for European places through the Premier League as they stand in ninth place, two points behind Brighton.

It depends on how often your team wins a trophy doesn't it? A European campaign is to be treasured, but guarantees nothing. A trophy win you'll remember for ever and have an amazing day. As a Palace fan I'll take a trophy as we've never won one that matters!

Definitely a trophy, any trophy over Europe, it goes down in the record books, and in some cases folklore, no one will remember when you team your team qualified for Europe.

  9. Saints have meetings about avoiding Derby recordpublished at 19:13 British Summer Time 2 April

Southampton v Crystal Palace (19:45 BST)

    RamsdaleImage source, Getty Images

Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale admits the club's aim is now just to avoid breaking the record for lowest points tally in a Premier League season.

The Saints, who have lost their last five league games, are on nine points - two behind Derby's record low of 11 in 2007-08.

Ramsdale told BBC Radio Solent: "The manager and the team have mentioned it - we've had a few meetings.

"We got everyone in and made people aware that no-one will forget about it and that you've played a part of it.

"We all know the situation - it's definitely in our minds, but at the minute it's not weighing us down too much because we've got time on our hands.

"You don't just get away with it, it never leaves you. You still hear about the Derby team and never about the other teams with a few points more. We know what we have to do.

"The aim is to finish the season with a respectable points total - not just to get three points, but to get them as soon as possible and finish respectably with 19 or 20 points."

  10. Palace under the radarpublished at 19:12 British Summer Time 2 April

Southampton v Crystal Palace (19:45 BST)

Crystal Palace are 12th in the Premier League table, but they could be much higher.

After failing to win any of their opening eight games this season, Oliver Glasner's side have taken 36 points from their last 20 outings.

A win tonight would mean they have taken 1.85 points per game (PPG) since losing to Nottingham Forest on 21 October.

1.85 PPG over an entire 38-game season would give a final tally of 70 points, which last season would have been enough for a fourth-place finish and a place in the Champions League.

  11. Can Palace make it seven away wins in row?published at 19:11 British Summer Time 2 April

Southampton v Crystal Palace (19:45 BST)

Crystal Palace boss Oliver GlasnerImage source, Getty Images

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner hopes his side will not be distracted by the upcoming FA Cup semi-final.

Palace face Villa at Wembley later this month for a place in the final.

"The most important thing is that we find the switch from the cup game and are not talking about Aston Villa and thinking about Aston Villa," said Glasner.

Palace have won their last six away games, all without conceding - including the 3-0 FA Cup win at Fulham on Saturday. They have not let in a goal on their travels this year.

"We need to be really in the game tomorrow, and then I think it's possible to celebrate the seventh consecutive away win," said Glasner.

"It [this away run] is something I never did before. But it's also [because of] the belief of the players that we can win everywhere.

"What I liked in the Fulham game is we didn't get nervous after really struggling at the beginning. We relied on our quality, on our system, on what we were planning."

  12. 'What a depressing place for Southampton fans'published at 19:10 British Summer Time 2 April

Southampton v Crystal Palace (19:45 BST)

    Chris Sutton
    BBC football expert

I've been speaking about some teams like Aston Villa and Newcastle who have got a lot to play for this season, but none of that applies to Southampton.

Saints' sole aim now is to pick up three more points and avoid going down with the lowest points tally in Premier League history.

What a depressing place to be for Southampton fans - only possibly saving some face by beating Derby County's pathetic points total of 11 points from 2007-08, when Robbie Savage was captain.

Southampton took the lead when they played Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in December, although they still lost.

I don't see the Eagles having any problems this time, though. Eberechi Eze is on fire for club and country and Ismaila Sarr found the target again in Saturday's FA Cup win over Fulham.

Sarr has gone under the radar a bit but he is one of many Palace players to have hit form, and I don't see Southampton keeping them out.

    Sutton's prediction: 0-2

    Newcastle v Brentford (19:45 BST)

Brentford have won their past five Premier League away games - the longest winning run on the road by any side in 2024-25. Only one side has won six successive away games in which they began the day outside of the top 10 in the competition - Arsenal from December 2020 to May 2021.

Excluding own goals, Brentford have scored from their first shot of a match nine times in the Premier League this season - the most of any side. Meanwhile, Newcastle have conceded the first shot they have faced nine times - also a league-high figure.

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It has been a long period since our last game and it has been a brilliant time in our lives and there is a time you want to come back to the action.

"I think they have done really well. We had a period where we had eight or none players to manage in between with the international break. The game can't come quick enough.

"I am looking for a maturity and a steeliness in our focus to be honest. We want to focus on our game and we know we have to be back to it today."

Brentford manager Thomas Frank speaking to BBC Match of the Day: ""They will definitely be on it for obvious reasons. Congratulations again to Newcastle and they will hunt down those Champions League spots.

"If you are a footballer or a coach who is involved in the Premier League, if you don't embrace nights like this, you shouldn't be in it."

Why Yarmoluk starts: "Mikkel Damsgaard was carrying for too long the flu, but he is a fit and will be available off the bench."

Have Newcastle stopped celebrating yet? They have been on the lash for a long time after winning the Carabao Cup, culminating - for some of their fans anyway - with their trophy parade on Saturday. I am sure the players have sunk a few too.

It showed how much the club's success means to the city, but now they have to focus on the rest of the season, because getting back into the Champions League would be massive for what comes next for Eddie Howe's side, and how they are viewed across Europe.

There will be a fantastic atmosphere at this game too, but the danger with that is we know Brentford are capable of spoiling anyone's party with their attacking threat.

Howe has tried to address that by speaking about the need to finish the campaign strongly, and this is a great example of where his side cannot afford to take their eye off the ball.

I suspect they will come out of the traps very quickly against Brentford, lifted by the crowd, and go a couple of goals up before the weekend starts to take its toll on them and the fans too.

    Sutton's prediction: 3-1

  18. 'From doubters to believers'published at 19:02 British Summer Time 2 April

If you love your football documentaries then you're in for a treat. There's a new one out which charts the journey of Liverpool lifting the 2019 Champions League under former manager Jurgen Klopp.

Reds keeper Alisson Becker and Andy Robertson provide the insight from the dressing room, with former assistant manager Peter Krawietz talking about the plan to turn 'doubters to believers' after Klopp's appointment in October 2015.

Liverpool's ex-director of research Ian Graham goes into the club's 'Moneyball' approach to recruitment, including how Klopp was convinced to sign Mohamed Salah rather than Julian Brandt.

There are some great stories from the club winning Europe's top competition for a sixth time, including how they overturned a 3-0 semi-final, first-leg deficit to beat a Lionel Messi-inspired Barcelona 4-0 at a raucous Anfield in the return leg.

Head over to the BBC iPlayer to watch it right now and it'll also be on BBC One at 23:40 (BST) on Wednesday, 9 April after the Champions League highlights programme.

What a season Mohamed Salah is having for Liverpool.

The Egyptian forward is putting up incredible numbers, contributing 27 goals and 17 assists in just 29 Premier League games - he is heading for an "all-timer" of a campaign.

I posed a couple of questions to David Moyes about trying to stop the 32-year-old and he said they could "try and build a wall or something".

Asked if Salah will go down as one of the Premier League's greatest players when he leaves, Moyes replied: "Yeah. We will enjoy taking him to the airport and getting him on the plane and getting him out!”

  20. Can Liverpool get back to winning ways?published at 18:58 British Summer Time 2 April

    Liverpool v Everton (20:00 BST)

This could be a big evening for Liverpool.

In their final two games before the international break they were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris St-Germain and deservedly beaten in the Carabao Cup final by Newcastle.

They have seemed like Premier League champions elect for weeks now but a defeat tonight and maybe doubt would start to creep in?

The Gunners are currently nine points below them.
