I looked and I thought 'you know what, he [Axel Disasi] is all right here'. They were doubling up and I felt there was no space. I thought 'get it to him [Jeremy Doku] a little bit quicker'.

It was just on transition at that point and Doku, we have seen him do it so many times. It was a really positive move. His ball [to Matheus Nunes], I have not seen him do that too much, right across the face. It was very, very good.

Two defeats in 12, Anon. And those other 10 were all wins.

It's still a formidable record, and all with an FA Cup semi-final to come.

As a Villa fan we all need to relax. Look at what we’ve achieved in last few months. Nearly took the best side in Europe maybe the world, to the edge of beating them over two legs. Destroyed Newcastle Utd, the in-form team. Only lost 2 in how many games? Whatever happens this season, it’ll be a season to be proud of.

As a Villa fan, overall, disappointed with the way the game turned out. We weren't great and on reflection City probably did deserve the 3pts. But the over-reaction to contact from once great players KDB, Dias and Silva was pretty pathetic.

  8. Disasi continues to struggle for Villapublished at 09:23 British Summer Time 23 April

    Man City 2-1 Aston Villa

Aston Villa fans showed their dissatisfaction with Axel Disasi, giving his performance as a second-half substitute against Manchester City the lowest rating of 4.70 in the BBC Sport report.

The French central defender has struggled to make a mark at Villa since arriving on loan from Chelsea.

He has largely been used in an unfamiliar position at right-back, often introduced from the bench as a replacement for regular starter Matty Cash.

Disasi was given a torrid time by Paris St-Germain's Desire Doue after being sent on for the second half of their first leg in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Villa conceded twice after Disasi's introduction, following raids down the PSG left, to lose 3-1.

And the Chelsea loanee was once again at fault against Manchester City, as Jeremy Doku capitalised on his poor positioning to set up the winning goal for Matheus Nunes.

Re Michael 9.04 If your talking quantity of goals then yeah I'm good with that as that's how you get the points although I still think Villa will qualify with Chelsea and Forest missing out

    Man City 2-1 Aston Villa

    BBC 5 Live Breakfast

Manchester City fan Rachel Herdson on 5 Live Breakfast: "[Matheus] Nunes has received a lot of stick this season, sometimes justified, but he is a makeshift right-back - he was never brought in to play that position.

"I am really pleased for Nunes because he has given his all on the pitch and he does get some stick. [It was] some finish from him and hopefully that will give us the lift now until the end of the season and we can go on and qualify (for the Champions League)."

  13. A tale of two stand-in right-backspublished at 09:10 British Summer Time 23 April

    Man City 2-1 Aston Villa

    Craig Nelson
    BBC Sport reporter

The contrast between the two managers' body language said it all.

A dejected puff of the cheeks from Aston Villa's Unai Emery came in the backdrop of Pep Guardiola's exaggerated celebrations.

The Manchester City boss jumped around punching both fists after watching Matheus Nunes score his first Premier League goal for the club in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time to see off one of their rivals for Champions League qualification.

Portuguese central midfielder Nunes had been heavily criticised for his contributions as a stand-in right-back this season, but repaid Guardiola's faith in him with interest as he popped up at the far post to slot home Jeremy Doku's centre.

On the opposite flank, Villa's own stand-in right-back, French central defender Axel Disasi, had been left floundering as Doku caught him out of position to burst into the box before delivering a killer, curling cross with the outside of his right boot.

Re: Colin and Anon 8:57 - the xG suggests that while City had more chances, Villa’s were of a better quality and should have resulted in more goals. I guess if you have to go for quantity over quality you’ll win the odd game here and there, but clearly there was a lack of quality in the game all round last night.

  17. 'A lot of work still to do' for Man Citypublished at 08:53 British Summer Time 23 April

    Man City 2-1 Aston Villa

    BBC 5 Live Breakfast

Former Manchester City midfielder Michael Brown was asked on 5 Live Breakfast whether the thought Tuesday's victory over Aston Villa had sealed their place in the top five and qualification for next season's Champions League:

"Not yet. It can't be. You have got to have the respect. I mean, it looks a lot better, that's for certain because of all the teams around them, so I think it is a big, big step.

"He knows that Pep [Guardiola]. We have seen the team being very inconsistent, that's the point. It's starting to turn but a lot of work still to do."

Disappointing result last night, Villa should've had the game buried with the chances had, City really aren't that good anymore. As for champions league chances, Newcastle, City and Chelsea have some tougher games then Villa. Still all to play for!

Instead, Wolves and Southampton are their next two league games after Sunday's FA Cup semi-final with Nottingham Forest.
