Chelsea fan here, that’s a lucky call! But apparently Guehi, in moving Caicedo, ended up too close to the ball for a legal shot. Rules are rules.

The touch is exquisite from Jean-Philippe Mateta and the pass from Adam Wharton is exceptional.

What even is football anymore….I despair

    Tom

How has that goal been deemed a foul? Caicedo not strong enough…. It’s not different to a goal keeper being bundled into - how many of those have been given?

    CJ

Given what goes on at corners, why is a bit of muscling out the way penalised at a free kick? Very harsh.

  5. GREAT SAVE!published at 14:20 British Summer Time 17 August

    Chelsea 0-0 Crystal Palace

Palace have been really bright over these past 10 minutes. Ismaila Sarr plays it to Adam Wharton and it falls to Jean-Philippe Mateta, who is through with a shooting chance. He opts for power, but Robert Sanchez had done well to close the gap and blocks the strike with his body.

That's it, we're done. Thanks for everything Thomas Frank, we're nothing without you and will be relegated.

    Chelsea 0-0 Crystal Palace

    Steve Sidwell
Former Chelsea midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live at Stamford Bridge

Before the Eze 'goal' had been ruled out...

That is worthy of seeing a replay. The sheer power and velocity took it past Robert Sanchez. Eberechi Eze only had one thought in his head. He elected to go for power, and it went in the back of the net.

After the Eze 'goal' was ruled out...

How many times have we seen that in the past where there's blocking? If that is the precedent set on the opening weekend it has to stay for the season.

    Nottingham Forest 1-0 Brentford

    Rachel Corsie

It's pretty poor from Brentford. They look like they have been playing for 60 minutes not 16 or 17. There are some tired clearances when they do get near the ball.

That is absolutely scandalous that. A disgrace.

    Nick, Kent

New season.....same old nonsense. Caicedo doesn't even think he's been fouled.

    Jeremy

Ridiculous, Moises Caicedo didn't complain at all.

Alas, our set piece coach steps up to be the boss and we've conceded from a corner in 5 mins. If I was a concerned Bee when Thomas The Frank Engine departed, I'm now more than a little worried our Premier League adventure is going to be derailed this time around

  14. Is that a foul?published at 14:16 British Summer Time 17 August

    Chelsea 0-0 Crystal Palace

    Nizaar Kinsella
BBC Sport Chelsea reporter at Stamford Bridge

Bernardo Cueva, Chelsea's set-piece coach, was immediately arguing with the fourth official Michael Salisbury after Eberechi Eze's goal.

It was about Marc Guehi's action to shove Caicedo out of the way in the wall to allow Eze to blast the shot through the space.

There was little argument from the Crystal Palace bench.

However, the Palace fans are chanting: "it's not football anymore."

Forest are playing brilliant football. We know that they want to bring in depth. It's not because Nuno is unhappy with the players that he has but the knows there are more games, more pressure and more expectation this season. The eleven that have started this game, it's electric pace, great flair and character, it's really enjoyable to watch.

  16. DISALLOWED GOAL - Palacepublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 17 August

    Chelsea 0-0 Crystal Palace

Back to 0-0. Eberechi Eze had absolutely blasted a free-kick into the net. But the replays show he only had the space to fire through because Marc Guehi had shoved Moises Caicedo out of the way.

Darren England, having been sent to the monitor to have a watch, changes his initial decision and rules out the goal.

However, the Premier League later say the goal was ruled out because Guehi was too close to the Palace wall when the free-kick was taken.

It was perfect for Eberchi Eze!
