    Burnley 0-0 Preston

Hannibal Mejbri opts to ignore a couple of runners off the ball and try his luck with a shot from a couple of yards outside the left corner of the Preston area.

He wraps his foot around it powerfully but it's always too high and sails into the stand to ironic jeers from the Lilywhites fans who made the 20-odd mile trip across Lancashire this morning.

I think it's fair to say North End fans won't be happy with that early call.

  3. Postpublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 5 October

    Portsmouth 0-0 Oxford

It has been a dominant start by Portsmouth and the only negative - albeit a major one - is the missed penalty.

They're still pressing forward and the U's haven't got going at all yet.

Most of these first eight minutes have been played firmly in the Oxford half.

  4. 'Great save by Cumming'published at 12:37 British Summer Time 5 October

    Portsmouth 0-0 Oxford United

    BBC Sport at Fratton Park

Portsmouth really going for it early on, the crowd right behind them.

It felt like momentum was in their favour when they won that penalty but it's a great save by Jamie Cumming down quick to his left to keep the score level.

This Pompey pressure not letting up at the moment though, still all them attacking the Oxford goal.

  5. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 5 October

    Burnley 0-0 Preston

With all the big guns up from the back, a really clever free-kick down the blind side of the Burnley wall from Preston's Ben Whiteman gives Emil Riis a sight of goal.

The recalled Riis drills a low shot across James Trafford and inside the far post.

The flag is already up, but he looks like he was actually onside.

No goal. A real let-off for Burnley.

  6. Postpublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 5 October

    Norwich 0-0 Hull City

Bright start by the home side in the sunshine in Norfolk.

They're passing the ball around with the kind of confidence that comes from not having lost at home for 11 months.

  7. MISSED PENALTY: Elias Sorensen (Portsmouth)published at 12:34 British Summer Time 5 October

    Portsmouth 0-0 Oxford

Elias Sorensen's penalty is saved by Jamie Cumming!

Sorensen hits it to the goalkeeper's left but it's far from being in the corner and Cumming gets a strong hand to it to parry it behind.

The resulting corner is cleared and the U's survive.

  8. PENALTY TO PORTSMOUTHpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 5 October

    Portsmouth 0-0 Oxford

It's handball and the ref has pointed to the spot!

Will Vaulks wasn't able to get out the way of the cross and it struck his arm.

Hard to argue with the decision, really.

  9. Postpublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 5 October

Preston won the toss against former hero Josh Brownhill, now Burnley skipper, and turned the Clarets around.. anything to get an edge in a local derby.

Hello and a warm welcome to Fratton Park.

A big game feeling about this one today, both sides will be desperate for the win.

Portsmouth are still searching for that first victory of the campaign, Oxford looking for their first away win.

The U's have been in fine form at home though, impressing under Des Buckingham in the second tier for the first time in 25 years.

Also worth pointing out this is the first time Josh Murphy plays against his former side following the summer switch from the Kassam to Fratton over the summer.

The Oxford fans over to my right offered warm applause when his name was read out over the tannoy earlier.

  15. About last night...published at 12:19 British Summer Time 5 October

    FT: Sunderland 2-2 Leeds

The Championship weekend got under way in memorable fashion with a humdinger on Wearside between two of the sides you'd expect to be right in the mix for promotion.

Chris Rigg, just 17 years old, gave the hosts an early lead but Joel Piroe neatly headed into the bottom corner to equalise soon after, though he did look like he might have strayed a toe offside in the build-up.

Junior Firpo swept home after the break to put Leeds in sight of a precious win which would have taken them go level on points at the top with their hosts, and then the clock ticked over into the 97th minute...

Sunderland keeper Anthony Patterson's long free-kick forward was glanced on by Jobe Bellingham and prodded into the area by Alan Browne. For all the world the ball looked like it would bounce through to the waiting arms of Leeds keeper Illan Meslier, but the French keeper somehow missed the ball, which spun past his hands, and leg, and into the back of the net to take the roof off the Stadium of Light and see the Leeds players sink to their knees.

A goal which will be replayed for eternity, but just how crucial might it prove in the promotion race remains to be seen.

  16. Pompey and Oxford still seeking Championship firstspublished at 12:15 British Summer Time 5 October

Portsmouth may have finished 20 points above Oxford United in League One last season, but it's Pompey that are feeling the effects of Championship life more heavily than the U's.

John Mousinho's side are still without a win after eight games and their most bruising night of all came on Wednesday night when they were hammered 6-1 by Stoke.

Their fans were still in fine voice despite suffering a heavy defeat and Portsmouth will need to lean into the home advantage at Fratton Park today as there is no time to dwell in this division.

Another reason is that despite Oxford's more than satisfactory start to the campaign, Des Buckingham's side are yet to pick up a victory away from home, drawing one - at Luton in midweek - and losing three.

The U's are without a win in their last three games (D2, L1) and will be desperate to get that last monkey off their back by picking up three points on the road.

You feel something has got to give on the south coast this lunchtime...

Two of the form sides in the division meet at Carrow Road.

Norwich are on a tremendous 19-match unbeaten run in front of their own fans in the league and have taken seven points from their past three games.

Visitors Hull City made a very slow start to the campaign under new boss Tim Walter but have won their past three matches to shoot up the table.

These pair finished sixth and seventh respectively last season and will both look to be in the shake up for the play-off places come May.

  18. Much more than local pride at stake at Turf Moorpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 5 October

    Burnley v Preston (12:30 BST)

Josh Brownhill and Scott Parker of BurnleyImage source, Rex Features

Burnley have had the better of this Lancashire rivalry of late, winning four of the last five at home to the Lilywhites, whose away form has not been much better anywhere in truth, taking just two points from their past nine on the road.

The Clarets have an eye-watering defensive record, shipping just four goals in their opening eight league games, the joint best start in their 142-year history.

Preston’s hopes of adding to that tally after their 35-minute trip up the M65 have been dealt a blow by the news that leading scorer Milutin Osmajic has been banned for eight games by the FA for biting Blackburn’s Owen Beck in their most recent Lancashire derby last month.

Before his ban kicked in the Montenegrin did inspire Paul Heckingbottom's side to a thumping win over Watford on Wednesday night which hauled them out of the drop-zone.

Scott Parker's Burnley made rather hard work of a 1-0 win over Plymouth on Tuesday but know they would go top with a win this lunchtime.

    This should be a cracker...
