The disallowed goal was disappointing obviously for the fans, for the players, for the staff and you could just see that Jacob Ramsey looked like he crept offside and it obviously went to VAR and they deemed it offside.

You felt the way the place erupted, that we got on the scoreboard but it wasn't meant to be and I think you've got to take the positives out of this first half. Ollie Watkins is stretching the pitch and Upamecano, he's been causing him plenty of problems.

It took Villa about 15 minutes to get into the game and string some series of passes together. But midway through the half I think Villa realised that they could really crack this Bayern defence with long balls.

Some would say Dayot Upamecano is lucky to still be on the pitch after his two nearly identical fouls on Ollie Watkins, with only one earning a yellow card. It will be interesting to see if he stays on for the 90 minutes.

A good half for Liverpool and no-one could deny they deserve to be ahead, following Alexis Mac Allister's 12th-minute goal.

But they know the job is only half done. Bologna, backed by noisy support which is adding to the atmosphere, have had chances, most notably Dan Ndoye hitting the post.

However, Liverpool could have also scored more themselves. A fun half of football.

Great scenes in Croatia as Dinamo Zagred score right at the end of the first half against Monaco. Petar Sucic with the finish three minutes into added time.

Remember, Zagreb were hammered 9-2 away to Bayern Munich in their opening game.

The crowd have really played their part in this first half although Aston Villa haven't really given them too much to shout about in an attacking sense. They had the disallowed goal and have caused Bayern one or two issues with long balls.

Bayern Munich have been the slightly better team, dominated the ball and tested Martinez with the Olise long range shot. Unai Emery will be happy with the performance but will want his team to carry a bigger threat.

The holders are behind!

Lille take the lead right at the end of the first half against record 15-time winners Real Madrid as Jonathan David scores from the penalty spot.

It was awarded after Eduardo Camavinga was adjudged to have handled inside the box.

Ollie Watkins almost raced onto a through ball just before the whistle but Dayot Upamecano dealt with him well, without fouling hm for once.

Aston Villa will be happy enough with how the first half went - but they would have been even happier had VAR not ruled out Pau Torres' goal.

Two minutes added on.

Brilliant feet by Michael Olise to find Serge Gnabery. He backheels it to Konrad Laimer, who beats two defenders but is then denied by Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez.

And that's half time. Liverpool dominated and have the lead, but Bologna had their moments.

Liverpool have a corner as we enter first-half stoppage time, but it is missed by everyone inside the box.

That is an incredible decision not to book Harry Kane. He is piggybacking Morgan Rogers there and eventually brings him down. That is amazing that the referee hasn't given Kane a yellow.

Harry Kane drops back into his own half to try to get something going for Bayern. He eventually commits a foul on Morgan Rogers and home fans aren't happy he isn't booked.
