Falmouth Town are through to the quarter-finals of the FA Vase after a 3-0 win at Jersey Bulls.

Jared Sims' 17th-minute penalty after Pierce Roche had brought down Olly Walker saw Falmouth lead at half-time.

Bulls struggled to create chances as Luke Watson was sin-binned after the hosts had a penalty appeal turned down.

Walker's far-post volley doubled the lead after 57 minutes before Cam Hutchison's cool finish four minutes from full-time sealed the win.

It is the first time Falmouth - who reached the first round of the FA Cup three times between 1962 and 1969 - have made the last eight since the 1989-90 season.

The Western Premier League club chartered a plane for their players and fans from Newquay Airport to attend the game in Jersey.

The Bulls, who are fourth in Combined Counties Premier Division South, lost out at the same stage last season when they were beaten by eventual runners-up Newport Pagnell Town.

Jersey Bulls manager Gary Freeman told BBC Radio Jersey:

"Obviously we came with a big crowd for a good occasion, and unfortunately after a very strong first half the second wasn't so great. Falmouth deserved the win, so we'll focus on the league now."

Speaking about the penalty he said: "If I'm honest, it's not a penalty."

"The first half the game was even and the ref's made a decision which I think from his angle might have looked a penalty, but from where we were stood on the side we could see Pierce touch the ball away."

On the turnout from the fans, Freeman added: "It's great and that's why this club was formed. It's great for the public to come out and support this and unfortunately we've not been able to give them a result to get them out again."

Falmouth Town manager Andy Westgarth told BBC Radio Cornwall:

"I'm absolutely delighted to come to a place like this and come away with a result and clean sheet."

On the away support he said: "The fans have been like our twelfth man. We know how important they are, and it's unrivalled for them to come all this way for us.

"Whether we win or lose, through thick or thin, they are the same and I'm just delighted for them because they've had to put a lot of money into this and travel a long way.

On whether Falmouth Town could progress even further into the competition, Westgarth said: "We're defensively solid, and we can score goals. Why not?"
