  1. Mason to mount a challenge?published at 19:13 British Summer Time 12 August

Ryan Mason may have only just took charge of his first game as a full-time manager but he has actually managed in the League Cup final.

The 34-year-old Albion boss stepped in when Tottenham sacked Jose Mourinho days before the 2021 final and led Spurs out at Wembley - where they lost 1-0 to Manchester City.

Wembley may not be in his sights just yet, but he'll be hoping to build on a 1-0 win over Blackburn at the weekend, while John Eustace's Derby are looking to bounce back form defeat at Stoke.

A lot of water has passed under the bridge since these two met in their best-known face-off, in fact Luton have gone past Coventry twice.

Beating the Sky Blues in the 2023 Championship play-off final saw the Hatters head to the Premier League - 27 months later they travel to the CBS Arena as a League One side under Matt Bloomfield

Coventry have also changed managers since that day at Wembley although the angst and anger over the departure of the much-loved Mark Robins swiftly evaporated when Frank Lampard (a two-time winner of this trophy with Chelsea) took them from strugglers to play-off qualifiers.

Luton have started the season with two wins from two while Coventry opened their Championship account with a goalless draw against Hull City.

Tonight is just the fourth EFL Cup meeting between the sides - all three of the previous ties have been at Kenilworth Road with Luton holding a 2-1 advantage.

  3. Boro aim to keep Rovers at baypublished at 19:06 British Summer Time 12 August

One of the more intriguing ties of the round sees Middlesbrough welcome League One Doncaster Rovers to The Riverside.

2004 winners Boro began life under new boss Rob Edwards with a 1-0 win over Swansea on Saturday while Grant McCann's newly-promoted Rovers came from behind at Mansfield to snatch a late winner and make it two wins from two in the third tier.

After claiming the League Two title after a dramatic run-in last season, McCann has admitted Rovers are "shooting for the stars" but it is now 20 years since their best ever run in this competition, reaching the last eight, beating Man City and Aston Villa on the way before going out to Arsenal on penalties.

Doncaster have lost 11 of their 13 away games against Middlesbrough, failing to score in any of their last eight visits. Their last goal scored there was on Christmas Day in 1956, netted by Tommy Cavanagh, however the only previous encounter in a major knockout competition saw Rovers romp to a 4-1 win at Ayresome Park in the FA Cup in 1952.

Edwards will be keen to avoid a similar fate at all costs in his first match under the lights on Teeside.
