Jersey Bulls top scorer Lorne Bickley may miss the next few games after being injured in the controversial end to his side's 2-0 win at Knaphill.

The striker, who notched both goals, suffered a cut above the eye after coming together with an opposing defender as he scored the second goal.

It led to angry scenes after the stoppage-time strike.

The win moved Bulls up to third in Combined Counties Premier South, external, four points off second-placed Knaphill.

"The only down side on that was there was a bit of a nasty one after Lorne scored - someone decided to put an elbow on him," boss Gary Freeman told BBC Radio Jersey after the win.

"His face is a bit of a mess and probably means he may miss a few games now with the stiches he's going to have to have."

Freeman added: "I've been told he won't be able to pay with stitches, so we'll have to see on that one.

"Others will get the opportunity, we've got a few that come back in on Tuesday."

Bickley - who has scored 22 goals in 28 games this season - gave Bulls a 70th-minute lead as the islanders went on to beat rivals Knaphill for the first time.

With leaders Farnham Town almost assured of the title after a 23rd win out of 23 games to go 19 points clear of the islanders, victory at Knaphill means second place is still up for grabs for the island side.

They have two games in hand on Knaphill with 14 still to play after winning for just the third time since early December.

"We're in a good position to get into the play-offs, but we don't just want to get into the play-offs; at some point we've got to make a statement," added Freeman.

"The teams in and around us are going to be very hard to beat and are going to be a real challenge when it comes to those play-offs.

"That was for me the big thing today that we threw a marker down for Knaphill and maybe other teams that are going to be in and around the play-offs with ambitions to go and win it, so I think we've shown that today."
