Adam Trotter's opening goal was his second of the season for Jersey Bulls

Adam Trotter impressed as Jersey Bulls beat struggling Guildford City 2-0 in Combined Counties Premier South.

The midfielder opened the scoring after 13 minutes as he reacted quickest after Miguel Carvalho's shot was saved.

Luke Watson and Lorne Bickley went close before Trotter got his second after 35 minutes after good build-up play by Watson and Bickley.

Jonny Le Quesne went close before the break while Carvalho put a second-half free-kick over the crossbar.

The win keeps Bulls third in Combined Counties Premier Division Division South and comes after they narrowly missed being the first side to take points off leaders Farnham Town in midweek.

"The first half was probably our best for a little while," Bulls manager Gary Freeman told BBC Radio Jersey.

"We tried to keep a lot of width on the pitch, keep it high and wide, and try and stretch them and play through the centre when we can.

"I thought we did that very well today and created a number of chances in the first half.

"It became a lot more scrappy in the second half, but thankfully the job was done and it was just a case of managing the game properly and getting an important three points back."

Freeman was also keen to praise Trotter, who had not scored a goal since September before his double at Springfield.

"We played him a little higher, trying to get him close to Lorne.

"What Adam gives you is energy, he wins the ball back, but he's got a very handy knack of arriving in the box so quite often he plays deeper.

"We asked him to play a bit higher today and get around Lorne and he's done that and scored a couple of good goals."
