Thomas Dodds' red card came with Guernsey 2-1 down

Guernsey FC boss Tony Vance says he was shocked by Thomas Dodds' sending off in their 4-2 defeat at Badshot Lea.

The islanders were 2-1 down in their Isthmian League South Central clash when Dodds was given a straight red card after 61 minutes.

The loss sees Guernsey remain just one place above the relegation zone.

"Doddsy won the ball. I think he caught the player just afterwards, but it was a full tackle," Vance told BBC Radio Guernsey following the game.

"One, I didn't even think it was a foul, and second not a yellow, but a red, I think everyone was in shock."

Jonathan Sanchez gave Badshot a 10th-minute lead only for Matt Loaring to equalise 10 minutes later.

But Anuar Ceesay restored the home side's advantage after 28 minutes as they led 2-1 at the break.

Guernsey felt they should have had a penalty when Tom Vaudin went down in the box, but were down to 10 men soon after.

Kareem Akinibbi made it 3-1 eight minutes after Dodds' red card, and while Charlton Gauvain pulled one back soon after, Akinibbi struck straight after the Guernsey goal to make it 4-2.

"We get the sending off, so it's very difficult to build momentum like that and we also had a possible penalty, which whilst it would be soft, again the score was 2-1 at the time," said Vance.

"Vauds was fouled, he was kicked, everyone heard it in the ground, anywhere on the pitch it;s a foul except in the box.

"It would have been really soft, I know that, but at the end of the day you're kicked, last time I looked in the rules that's a foul."
