Guernsey FC's good form continued as they won 3-1 at Ashford Town.

Matt Loaring smashed home from close range following a goalkeeping error to give Guernsey a fifth-minute lead.

Scott Day volleyed into the top corner from Ben Holder's cross 20 minutes later for a deserved Ashford equaliser.

But Loaring doubled his tally from the penalty spot after 52 minutes following a foul on Charlton Gauvain, before Gauvain made it 3-1 13 minutes later as he took advantage of a defensive error.

Loaring took his tally to 11 goals for the season - seven of them coming in his last eight appearances for the Green Lions.

The win was a third in four matches for Tony Vance's side and just their second away from Footes Lane this season.

It sees them consolidate 16th place in Isthmian League South Central while Ashford remain eight points above the relegation zone and are now five points behind the islanders.

"I thought we managed it so well today, and once we were able to cope with their threats, I thought we handled the situation really well and deserved to win," Vance told BBC Radio Guernsey.

"The goal we gave away was poor, and we were probably fortunate to go ahead as the goalkeeper made a mistake.

"It was a poor goal to concede and were disappointed, but you could see that they had a real aerial threat and that's what we had to handle, and generally we did that very well."
